Flexible Gas-Tight Film

The clay film “Claist,” which comprises a natural or synthetic clay as a main component, exhibits uniform orientation of clay particle laminates. It is flexible, has a mechanical strength sufficient for use as a self-standing film, and has a structure in which laminates of clay particles are highly oriented. The thickness of Claist is 10-100 micrometers, and can be made thicker by layering. The gas permeability at room temperature to hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and other inorganic gases is lower than the detectable limit. The gas barrier performance of Claist remains unchanged up to 600°C. Claist is flexible enough to be folded like paper without cracking. The standard Claist film shows a tensile strength of 19.2 MPa and an elongation of 2.2%.

Board Design Test Vehicle

The Board Design Test Vehicle is a method for objective evaluation and qualification of supplier capabilities for the fabrication of multilayer printed circuit boards. It is used to analyze and assess technical capability and reliability of products that are provided by a supplier, and provides a mechanism for supplier improvement with validation. The design incorporates features that allow for analysis of variables data to determine actual process capabilities statistically and accurately, with a minimal amount of effort. Data can be plotted with distributions to determine process capability, revealing whether the data is “filtered” or cherry-picked, and can help evaluate the repeatability and consistency of processes. The ability to validate design rules is provided and matches supplier capabilities to actual designs.

Lactic-Acid-Producing Bacterial Strain

This technology has solved the problem of adding beneficial lactic-acid-producing bacteria (LAB) to both wet and dry foods that undergo processing with heat and pressure. The bacterial strain is able to withstand harsh manufacturing regimes including high- compression tableting, coating, highshear blending, and excessive heating. Previously, most LAB could be distributed only in refrigerated wet foods (such as yogurt) and less than 1% of it survived to reach the digestive tract. The new LAB strain delivers 200 times the beneficial bacteria to the digestive tract over current strains, and has been used in products for the treatment of the symptoms of lactose-intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, colitis, arthritis, psoriasis, and a number of other digestive problems. It also has been shown to strengthen the immune system, improve absorption of vitamins and minerals, aid in digestion generally, and displace harmful bacteria in the digestive tract.

Database Interrelation Miner

The Interrelation Miner Methodology is a technology for multivariate statistical data analysis and outcome prediction (data mining) of either complex and/or multidimensional data sets, or of very small datasets based on statistical fuzzy set theory. This tool can be applied to any complicated data set with many samples or variables (e.g., micro array data), and provides results for small or incomplete data tables by using very simple decision rules with nonlinear data models. The Interrelation Miner has analyzed gas chromatography/mass spectrometry data and has provided up to 20% better prediction performance than compared approaches. Other possible applications include: microarrays, protein arrays, environmental data sets, food quality control, and quality control in general.

Non-Bitter Peptide

In a two-step process of hydrolyzation utilizing fungal proteases, mild peptide is extracted in such a way that it is free of the bitter taste and aftertaste of similar products. Mild peptide may be mixed with protein drinks and other products to increase the effectiveness of the protein through its amino acid profile and its high Protein Efficiency Ratio. The process of producing mild peptide also makes it non- allergenic, which means it can be used as a milk substitute in infant formulas and by anyone who is lactose-intolerant. Another benefit of the mild peptide production process is that the resultant protein retains its full nutritional value and is quickly absorbed to enhance performance and well-being.

Extraction of Betulin and Betulinic Acid from Birch Bark

NaturNorth has created bioactive compounds with potential applications in pharmaceutical, agricultural, and biocidal applications. The compounds have potential applications against HIV, MRSA, herpes, in anticancer treatments, and in anti-inflammatory, liver protection, and skin protection applications. The compounds are derived from betulin and betulinic acid, naturally occurring substances found in the bark of the birch tree. To obtain betulin and betulinic acid, NaturNorth developed cost-effective ways of extracting the substances from the bark (a low-cost renewable resource). There are three primary assets of value: An existing library of 1,000 proprietary, protected, and confidential compounds; the capability to export a “mine” of new potential compounds; and the source of low-cost production through extraction of betulin from birch bark and proprietary synthesis methods for derivatives. Cost-Effective Wind Turbine Generator

The Cutcher Wind Turbine Generator provides low- and no-cost power by utilizing tall structures such as rural and urban homes, as well as businesses and buildings. Unlike traditional wind-power generators, the Cutcher Wind Turbine Generator utilizes the wind current that is channeled around buildings and tall structures, eliminating the building of an additional tower for a platform. The generator utilizes wind-driven blades arranged around a hub. As the wind blows, the blades and hub begin to turn, the mechanical drive is activated, and it initiates the electric generator. The generator can be constructed from high-grade aluminum and is scalable to fit specifications for use in both industrial and consumer applications. It is engineered and designed with a box-like frame that employs wind-blocking walls that prevent the wind currents from blowing the blades in the reverse direction. The generator can be installed on existing buildings and structures such as homes, barns, grain elevators, office buildings, and oil tanks.
