Motor Cables

HELUKABEL® (Elgin, IL) offers the TOPSERV® Hybrid PVC and TOPSERV® Hybrid PUR cables that allow machine end-users, OEM machine builders, and drive system manufacturers to combine the existing power and feedback cables into a single cable in order to connect the frequency inverter to the motor’s feedback system. The cables combine the existing structure of power conductors and break pairs with an encoder cable element. The encoder element serves as the central communication interface between the frequency inverter and the motor-feedback system. The use of an encoder cable allows for enhanced transmission of motor position data and feedback, such as operating temperature. Combining both the power and data transmission elements into one cable allows a minimal amount of cabling to be used.

Linear Guide Rails

Sterling Instrument (New Hyde Park, NY) has introduced the S99GWRM40 and S99GWRM80 series linear guide rail systems. The sliding element is a specially formulated polymer material suited for hard-anodized aluminum rails. The combination of the two yields low abrasion. The carriage and rail combination is a compact design, and the low, wide profile withstands high torque. They are stocked in lengths of 1,000, 2,000, and 3,000 mm. Both the size 40 and size 80 series rails are made of hard anodized aluminum. The carriage assembly for both series consists of an aluminum plate, die cast zinc blocks, and J® Polymer bearings. The overall height of both series is 24 mm.

Integrated Motors and Drives

Schneider Electric Motion USA (Marlborough, CT) has introduced Lexium MDrive integrated motors and drives in two motor sizes, NEMA 23 & 34, and two product versions. The Pulse/Direction version is a motor and drive with 4 control modes: torque, speed, velocity, and step clock direction. The Motion Control version is a motor, drive, and controller for direct programming with 11,120 bytes of flash memory.

Piston Pump

HAWE Hydraulics (Charlotte, NC) offers the V40M axial piston pump for open circuits in mobile machines. It has a displacement volume of 2.75 in3/rev, and its swash plate design allows for fine-tuning of the flow rate. With a self-priming speed of 2,900 rpm, it is suitable for applications that require operating pressures up to 3,625 psi, but can handle pressure spikes up to 4,600 psi. The pump is connected to the PTO or directly to the motor by an SAE-B flange. It is available with load-sensing and electric proportional controllers. Options include a thru-shaft with radial suction and pressure ports for mounting additional variable displacement pumps or auxiliary pumps. The pump has a length of 8.2", making it suitable for applications where a tandem pump is needed.

Integrated Drives and Motors

Applied Motion Products (Watsonville, CA) has introduced the SWM24 IP65-rated integrated drives and motors. The system fuses a motion controller to a high-torque NEMA24 step motor. The entire package is engineered to resist the ingress of water and dust to IP65 standards. All connectors are sealed M12 style. All models provide 340 ounce inches of holding torque, and are available with Ethernet or RS-232 communication. They include a 4000 count/rev optical encoder to provide closed features including stall detection, position verification, position maintenance, and stall prevention algorithm. Other features include auto-tuned digital current control and high-resolution microstepping engine. The S and SF models can be used in step direction or velocity control applications; the Q and QF models include stored programming capability.

Gear Drives and Motors

Boston Gear and Bauer Gear Motor, Altra Industrial Motion companies (South Beloit, IL) announced the addition of inline models to the Series 2000 right angle helical gear drives and gearmotors. The Boston Gear Series 2000 C-face gear drives feature mounting registers for flexible installation. A front mounting face and field-installable output flange are provided. Models feature large output shaft diameters, and are available with a torque range up to 39,000 in.lb. (4400 Nm). Units feature rounded housing surfaces, acrylic paint pigmented with 316 stainless steel flake for high corrosion and abrasion resistance, and integrated O-rings for leak and ingress resistance.

Dynapar (Gurnee, IL) has announced the SLIM Tach ST56 encoder, a magnetic digital tachometer that provides position and velocity feedback from electric motors in both industrial and harshduty environments. The encoder also comes with a diagnostic LED to provide visual status of encoder functionality. The encoder features a 3/4" profile and 9.8" height, a bearingless design that mounts to 56 and 140 C-face motors, and an anodized aluminum housing with a field-serviceable connector available in single or dual output options.

Linear Position Sensors

Vented versions of the CD 375 Series of miniature AC-operated LVDT position sensors are available from Macro Sensors (Pennsauken, NJ). The sensors withstand high pressures and temperatures in applications where space is at a premium and the environment is hostile. As the coil assembly of the sensor is vented to equalize pressure inside and outside the LVDT linear position sensor, units can withstand a combination of high pressure and temperatures, shock, and vibration. Since vent holes in the housing expose the coils inside, fluid must be electrically nonconductive and chemically benign.

Spring-Engaged Brakes

Nexen Group (Vadnais Heights, MN) has introduced the FMBS flange-mounted, spring-engaged safety brakes with high thermal capacity for NEMA C-Face motors and gear reducers. With continuous thermal dissipation, the brakes are able to stop more kinetic energy without overheating. The brakes are available in two models that provide torque from 1080 in-lbs to 1800 in-lbs, and burnished torque from 1300 in-lbs up to 2160 in-lbs, with release pressures of 55 psi and 90 psi and a maximum pressure of 120 psi. Both models feature a top speed of 1800 rpms and zero backlash input.

Servo Drives

Technosoft (Neuchatel, Switzerland) has announced the iPOS3602 BX-CAN and iPOS3604 BXCAN closed-frame intelligent drives. Equipped with a CAN interface, the drives control rotary or linear brushless, DC brush, and step motors of powers up to 144W and 36V nominal voltage. They drive 2 A or 4 A continuous currents, and 3.2 A or 10 A peak currents at a supply voltage ranging from 12 to 36 Vdc, with a PWM of 20 kHz frequency. The servo drives offer single- or multiple-axis control functions such as master-slave or standalone operations. They embed motion controller, drive, and PLC functionality in one unit.
