Digital Torquemeter

The MCRT® 88700V dual-range digital torquemeter from S. Himmelstein (Hoffman Estates, IL) measures torque even if the ratio of peak to average torque is high, such as when starting, stopping, or reversing highinertia loads. When peak torques are unknown, the torquemeter reduces the risk of damage from unexpected or accidental torque spikes. The unit features three simultaneous analog outputs that can be individually set to 5 or 10V at each range full scale. Over-range is 150 to 300%, and mechanical overload is 200% of the high range and 1000% of the low range. Digital output of torque, and speed and power with option Z, is available over the resident RS-232 serial port. Included software interfaces with Windows-based PCs for data display and collection, and instrument setup.

Servo Motor

Beckhoff Automation (Burnsville, MN) has released the AM8000 servo motor series featuring single-cable technology that combines the power and feedback system into one standard motor cable. The encoder data, rotor position, multi-turn information, and status of the thermal conditions in the motor are transmitted via a digital interface. The series consists of six different motor sizes, each with two or three optional overall lengths. Users can select from a stall torque range of 0.9 to 65 Nm. Salient pole winding technology is used in the rotor, which enables a higher slot fill factor. Small end turns, in conjunction with a fully encapsulated stator, provide thermal management.

Servo Drive

Technosoft (Bevaix, Switzerland) offers the iPOS3602 MX micro-sized, pluggable servo drive for motion control applications where space is critical. The drive can be integrated into the user’s motherboard or PCB machine. All basic motor control functions, as well as motion control and PLC features, are embedded onto the drive. Equipped with CAN/CANopen, and optionally with an EtherCAT interface, the drive can be adapted to the decentralized control of any rotary or linear brushless, DC brush, or step motor up to 75W. Setup, tuning, and motion programming are done with EasyMotion Studio and Technosoft Motion Language (TML). Multiple operations can be executed with the drive, including setting of various motion modes, change of motion modes and/or parameters, execution of homing sequences, or program flow control.
