Auto Focus Modules for CCD/CMOS Cameras

New Scale Technologies (Victor, NY) has introduced custom auto focus modules that install directly on board-mounted cameras and accept standard threaded lens assemblies. The compact lens motion module uses New Scale’s tiny SQUIGGLE® motor, TRACKER™ position sensor, and integrated electronics to provide high-resolution, closed-loop control. These components are combined with precise mechanical guidance in a robust polymer housing only slightly larger than the optical lens assembly. The module features a stroke of >2 mm, lens mass of up to 10 g, velocity of 7 mm/sec, and position resolution of 0.5 μm. The encoder type is a hall sensor array and incremental (absolute over 2 mm).
