Linear Technology Corp. (Milpitas, CA) offers the LTC3867 fixed-frequency synchronous step-down DC/DC controller with nonlinear control, differential output voltage sensing, and clock synchronization. The 4V to 38V input range encompasses a variety of applications including intermediate bus voltages. Onboard N-channel MOSFET gate drivers allow the use of high-power external MOSFETs for high load current up to 25A. Output voltage is 0.6 to 14V.

The controller’s differential amplifier provides remote output voltage sensing of both positive and negative terminals. A 65-ns on-time allows for a high step-down ratio power supply at high-frequency operation. Operating frequency is selectable from 200 kHz to 1.2 MHz, or can be synchronized to an external clock. Features include DCR temperature compensation, onboard bias voltage LDO, adjustable current limit, and soft start or tracking.
