Olympus (Center Valley, PA) has announced the DP26 high-resolution digital color camera. Incorporating a 5-megapixel scientific-grade CCD sensor, the DP26 camera offers a frame rate of 16 frames per second (fps) or greater. For specialty equipment capable of displaying 5 megapixels, the system can provide a refresh rate of 7 fps.

An advanced progressive scan mode, which is available at all supported resolutions and relies upon a fast 1394b FireWire connection to the computer, allows the DP26 to generate a live image feed that reduces artifacts such as image striping or color ghosting.

Both software packages provide automatic shading correction, rapid white balance adjustment, auto-exposure, and measurement tools. In addition, data is stored and accessed using a file manager that records exposure settings, magnifications, and other parameters for reference.
