iWatt (Campbell, CA) has launched its iW3616 (12W) and iW3617 (25W) LED driver ICs based on the company’s thirdgeneration digital AC/DC SSL (solid state lighting) LED driver platform. The drivers are designed for 120V/230VAC offline LED lighting bulbs and fixtures.
iWatt's proprietary Flickerless technology features an intelligent dimmer interface with digital dimming algorithms to automatically detect and then adapt to the dimmer type, resulting in smooth, flicker-free dimming. Achieving power factor > 0.95, low total harmonic distortion (THD) 85%, the new drivers exceed global energy and LED lighting standard requirements, including the European Union IEC61000-3-2, NEMA SSL 6 dimming and Zhaga hot-plug interchangeability standards.
The new platform builds on iWatt’s previous-generation Flickerless LED driver, the 15W iW3614, increasing output power to 25W, lowering the bill of materials (BOM) cost by 10% to 20%, and expanding dimmer compatibility to offer broad compatibility with installed dimmers, including residential TRIAC dimmers, as well as the more sophisticated digital dimmers.
