SMAC (Carlsbad, CA) has released the CBL series of electric cylinders that feature a “snap-together” design that controls tight tolerance stack-up. The CBL35 cylinder has a 35-mm diameter and stroke lengths of 10 mm and 25 mm. The cylinders offer cycle rates of over 100 million cycles. Features include carriage-free design and built-in linear bearings, including SMAC lube rings. The design and construction allow for cylinder acceleration up to 50G. They can operate at over 2,000 CPM. The cylinders are designed for stroke adjustability via electrical interface, and enable free and independent control of velocity, position, and force simultaneously.

The “Soft-land” function provides for accurate sensing of product location and ensures force control. No external switches or sensors are required to validate cylinder movement or position, enabling reduction in external wiring. CBL35 power consumption is as low as 1.5 amps and 24V, and since the primary wear item in the cylinder is the guide bushing, they can be repaired in the field at the end of their initial service life.
