Koford Engineering LLC (Winchester, OH) has introduced a series of 40-amp, 28-volt sensorless drives that operate up to 120,000 rpm with a 2-pole motor. The design features reliable startup and can be custom-programed for high-inertia loads. Operation at high altitude or in a vacuum is possible. Models are available that accept input from motor temperature sensors to prevent motor overheating. Other models are available with a brake function. All units include a drive temperature sensor to prevent overheating. Closed loop and open loop speed control types are offered. External inductors are not required for slotless or ironless motors. The pwm frequency is 37 kHz, and the drive measures 3.73 × 5.06 × .934" and weighs 6.5 ounces.
