LuminAR: Projected Augmented Reality Interface from Desk Lamp
LuminAR evolves traditional incandescent bulbs and desk lamps into a new category of robotic, digital information devices. Developed at MIT Media Lab's Fluid Interfaces Group, the LuminAR Bulb combines a Pico-projector, camera, and wireless computer in a compact form factor. This self-contained system enables users with projected information and a gestural user interface, and it can be screwed into standard light fixtures. The LuminAR Lamp is an articulated robotic arm, designed to interface with the LuminAR Bulb. Both LuminAR form factors seamlessly connect with electronic devices. In this video, the design process and hardware and software implementation are documented, and new kinetic interaction techniques are demonstrated.
