Clinical-Quality Neural Implants Capable of Both Stimulating and Sensing
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) researchers are working on a new class of neural implants that are the first clinical-quality devices capable of two-way communications with the human nervous systems. Unlike existing interfaces that only sense or only stimulate, these devices are capable of stimulating and sensing using both electric and chemical signals. The LLNL Multifunctional Array contains chemical sensors, a microfluidic channel, and stimulating and recording electrodes.
