Japanese Bipedal Robot Wins DARPA Robotics Challenge Trials 2013
The DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) is a competition of robot systems and software teams vying to develop robots capable of assisting humans in responding to natural and man-made disasters. The DRC Trials took place December 20-21, 2013, at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, where sixteen teams guided their robots through eight physical tasks that test mobility, manipulation, dexterity, perception, and operator control mechanisms. The best eight teams will receive continued DARPA funding to compete in the Robotics Finals event, leading to one team winning a $2 million prize. DRC Team SCHAFT came in first, winning 27 points out of a possible 32. SCHAFT Inc. is a Tokyo, Japan-based company that is a spin-off of the University of Tokyo's Jouhou System Kougaku (JSK) Laboratory. Their S-One bipedal robot features high-output, water-cooled motor systems powered by capacitors.

00:00:54 and water cooling system and uh it enables our robot can uh generate a very very big Power uh second is the robot is very uh robot can walk very stavy in this D trial there are a very difficult program to uh walk stable and on the unstable terrain that Dr nishaki is arism and R power and high motor driver uh can enable uh such very St stable working third is the speciality
00:01:29 of in integration power a lot of team members comes from same robotics Trel Tre from the University of Tokyo and we are almost over graduate and uh we shared uh very uh wide experience of robot integration and uh software both software and hardware and uh and have a uh shared a lot of experience and that experience enable us to develop robot and I think it's a very important thing
00:01:58 to uh get a win oh
