Super Detailed LiDAR Map to Aid Autonomous Vehicle & Urban Development

This video shows LiDAR data for a portion of a study area in central Dublin. The initial 18 seconds demonstrates standard density LiDAR scanning, while the remainder of the video shows radically improved 335pt/m2 LiDAR data collected by Professor Debra Laefer's Urban Modeling Group at University College Dublin. The data includes a top-down view of the roofs and distribution of buildings, along with information about their vertical surfaces, making it possible to build detailed 3D models of the urban landscape. Open access to such data  has implications for researchers working on urban planning and development, and for engineers working on autonomous vehicles and drone fleet operation.
