RePaint: Reproducing Works of Art with 3D Printing
A new system aims to authentically recreate works of art using deep learning and 3D printing. A team from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) created the system, called RePaint. It reproduces paintings by combining two approaches called color-contoning and half-toning, along with a deep learning model that figures out how to stack ten different inks to recreate specific color shades. Conventional printing only uses four color inks.
