'Flying Fish' Robot Launches Itself Out of the Water
Created by researchers at Imperial College London , this bio-inspired robot uses water from its environment to create a gas and then launch itself from the water’s surface. The robot can travel up to 26 meters through the air after take-off. It requires only 0.2 grams of calcium carbide powder in a combustion chamber, and the only moving part is a small pump that brings in water from its environment. This "flying fish" robot could be ideal for collecting water samples in hazardous environments and monitoring ocean pollution.
