NASA's New 'VIPER' Rover to Hunt for Water Ice on the Moon

NASA  ’s "VIPER" (Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover) is a mobile robot that will roam around the South Pole of the Moon searching for water ice. The VIPER mission will provide surface-level detail of where the water is and how much is available to use. This will bring NASA a big step closer towards the ultimate goal of a sustainable, long-term presence on the Moon, making it possible to eventually explore Mars and beyond. The hardware for the rover is designed by NASA's Johnson Space Center, and the instruments are provided by Ames, Kennedy, and Honeybee Robotics.

00:00:00 We're sending a rover to hunt for water on the Moon Meet VIPER The rover will explore the Moon's south pole Searching for water ice inside cold, dark craters and other places Water is a precious resource, especially in space

00:00:30 The Moon's water could be extracted and turned into fuel for rockets Or oxygen for breathing The rover will drill into the Moon's surface and analyze samples Helping us create detailed maps that show where the water is located Future astronauts will use this water while living and working on the Moon

00:00:59 Making discoveries that will pave the way for human missions to Mars
