Positioning Stage
H2W Technologies (Santa Clarita, CA) introduced the VMS06-008-LB-01 high-acceleration, voice-coil-driven positioning stage with a sliding contact bearing system.
An electromagnetic circuit design allows a minimal cross-section of 1.20” (30.5 mm) by 1.00” (25.4 mm).
The stage has a 0.60” (15.2 mm) stroke and generates 1.12 lbs. (5.0 N) of continuous force and 3.36 lbs. (15 N) of peak force.
Each axis is guided by sliding contact bushing assemblies. It includes a one-micron resolution magnetic linear encoder.

Motor/Actuator
Curtiss-Wright Industrial Division (Christ-church, UK) released the Exlar® GTX100 integrated motor/actuator that incorporates inverted roller screw technology. High power density and compact form factor make it a suitable replacement for hydraulic cylinders.
The actuators feature continuous force ratings up to 15,392 N (3,460 lbf), speeds up to 953 mm/sec (37.5 in/sec), and standard stroke lengths from 150 mm (5.9”) to 300 mm (11.8”).
Other features include integration into most leading motion control architectures.

Guide/Encoder
THK (Schaumburg, IL) offers the Type SHS-LE that integrates a THK Type SHS LM guide with a THK linear encoder (linear position sensor). In the Caged Ball LM Guide, each row of balls is arranged at a contact angle of 45°, enabling it to be used in all directions. The guide features THK Caged Technology that employs a synthetic resin cage with a patented curvature that cradles each ball and separates it from the next. The spaces between the rolling elements act as a lubrication system.

Position Sensors
Novotechnik U.S. (Southborough, MA) introduced the TM1 Series of magnetostrictive linear hydraulic and pneumatic position sensors. A magnetic ring-shaped marker is affixed to a moving cylinder and moves up and down the sensor rod without contact. Stroke lengths are from 50 to 2,000 mm in 25-mm steps. Both plug-in and screw-type flange models are available. Other features include absolute linearity of “0.04% F.S. (min. 0.3 mm) and repeatability of "±0.1 mm. Output options include 4 to 20 mA current as well as voltage output of 0.25 to 4.75 V, 0.5 to 4.5 V, or 0.1 to 10 V.

Motors
Allied Motion Technologies (Amherst, NY) released KinetiMax™ high-power-density motors. The outer-rotor brush-less motors are designed for high-torque, low-cogging applications. The motors are available in compact stator-rotors sets in six frame sizes with three stack lengths per size and three windings per stack length. The motors also feature a large stator bore that allows cabling to easily pass through for applications such as robotic joints.

Inductive Angle Encoder
The Zettlex IncOder™ inductive angle encoder from Celera Motion (Bedford, MA) uses non-contact, inductive technology for precision angle measurement. The encoder features a stator and a rotor, each shaped like a flat ring. The large bore accommodates through-shafts, slip rings, optical fibers, pipes, or cables. The stator contains the electronics to receive power and generate an output signal. The encoder does not require special couplings and the rotor and stator can be screwed to the host product. Hardanodized aluminum alloy housings and monolithic constructions are used throughout.

Slip Ring Motor
Siemens (Munich, Germany) announced the Simotics HV M slip ring motor with a power range up to 4.5 MW. The motor is designed and dimensioned for applications with high load inertia and low starting current requirements. In high-torque applications, the motor reduces the mechanical stress on the complete installed equipment. The motor design is based on a modular platform concept, with lower weight but increased housing rigidity. Service openings all around allow easy access to the interior.

Gearboxes
The IronHorse® HBR series of helical bevel gearboxes from AutomationDirect (Cumming, GA) combines the helical gearset with a bevel gearset to create an output that is perpendicular to the input. The gearboxes are hollow shaft output and accept double or single shafts. The universally interchangeable design provides flexible installation with C-face and TC-face inputs, perpendicular output, and six mounting positions. Five gearbox sizes support 56C up to 254/6TC NEMA motor frames. Six ratios are available from 10:1 to 120:1.
