Magnetic Angle Encoder
HEIDENHAIN (Schaumburg, IL) released the ECM 2400 absolute modular magnetic angle encoder with functional safety for machine feedback. It is designed for machine tool applications that require a sturdy encoder with medium accuracy. The encoder is suitable for applications with high rotational speeds, angular accelerations, and limited space due to a low overall height of the complete system. It works on B-axis lathes with motorized milling spindles or on the A and C axes of milling machines where a large hollow shaft encoder is necessary.

Absolute Encoder
Faulhaber Micromo (Clearwater, FL) released the magnetic AEMT-12/16 L absolute encoder with a preset multiturn resolution of 16 bits (65,536 revolutions) and a single-turn resolution of 12 bits (4,096 steps) for commutation, speed control, and motion control. The multiturn count can be reset via an additional interface pin during start-up. Position data can be queried by an SSI Interface with BiSS-C Protocol. With a line driver, the interface is designed differentially and is based on the RS-422 standard, so it is possible to position the motor/encoder unit up to five meters away from the controller. The encoder can be connected to a main power supply as well as a backup battery or alternative energy storage.

Torque Limiter
ENEMAC (Kleinwallstadt, Germany) introduced the type ECH torque limiter with an integrated chain wheel. In case of an overload, the torque limiter disengages in a few seconds and the transmission of the torque stops. To activate the machine’s emergency stop, the switching movement of the disc spring must be sensed by a proximity switch. When the engine starts slowly, the limiter engages automatically after one revolution. The safety coupling is available in 11 sizes for disengagement torques between 2 and 900 Nm; the sprocket size can be determined by the customer.
