ATS Alignment Turning Stations

TRIOPTICS’ (Wedel, Germany) ATS alignment turning stations now enable cutting of threads and grooves centered on the optical axis during the edge processing of mounted lenses. For high-precision lenses, the method of mounting single lenses in sub-cells and processing them using alignment turning has proven effective. During this process, the edge of the mount and the flange surfaces of mounted lenses are produced in a way so that the axis of symmetry of the mount coincides with the optical axis of the lens and ensuring that all lenses have the correct air gaps between them. After being machined, the mounted lenses are inserted into a lens barrel – without requiring any additional alignment steps.

Fiberoptic Collimating Lenses

LumeDEL LLC (Manchester, NH) introduces fiberoptic collimating lenses optimized for fiberoptic patch cords with high numerical aperture (NA) up to 0.63. Very high NA, multimode optical fibers provide the best optical coupling efficiency with LEDs to deliver maximum output power. Standard fiberoptic collimators are designed for low NA optical fibers, like NA 0.22, which results in significant power loss if used with high NA optical fibers.

3D LiDAR Sensor

STMicroelectronics (Geneva, Switzerland) announced an all-in-one, direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) 3D Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) module with market-leading 2.3k resolution, and revealed an early design win for the world’s smallest 500k-pixel indirect Time-of-Flight (iToF) sensor. The VL53L9 is a new direct ToF 3D LiDAR device with a resolution of up to 2.3k zones. Integrating a dual scan flood illumination, unique in the market, the LiDAR can detect small objects and edges and captures both 2D infrared (IR) images and 3D depth map information.

Phantom C321High-Speed Air Camera

Vision Research (Wayne, NJ) has introduced the new Phantom C321 Air camera, specifically designed for airborne applications. The C321 Air is compact camera with a 2Mpx sensor that reaches 1,490 FPS at full 1920 × 1080 resolution, and higher frame rates at reduced resolutions. While many airborne tests require lower frame rates such as 500fps, higher frame rates give enhanced capability, allowing for more diverse and detailed testing.
