Many factors must be considered and decisions must be made during the medical device design process, but one aspect that is often overlooked — and in some instances realized only too late — is the role pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) play in the construction of a device and its adherence to the skin. This Tech Talk will address how and why device manufacturers and designers should plan ahead to ensure PSA selection is not an obstacle when bringing products to the marketplace. The presentation will cover the essentials related to how PSA tapes are successfully integrated into the design and functionality of medical devices, ranging from patient population to wear times to device securement, as well as when PSAs should first be considered during design and the type of testing needed to support the device development.
