Variable Speed Drive
Since its introduction in 2019, Yaskawa’s (Waukegan, IL) GA800 variable speed drive has proven itself as the ultimate combination of power, ease of use, flexibility, and performance. Designed to control traditional and emerging motor technologies, the GA800 handles applications ranging from simple fans and pumps to high-performance test dynamometers requiring precise regulation. In addition to its robust and powerful design, the GA800 provides highly flexible network communications, embedded functional safety, and easy-to-use tools featuring mobile device connectivity. Yaskawa announced the following expansions to the GA800 product line: GA800 frame 12 standard drives - 480V, 700 to 1000 HP; GA800 480V, 700 to 1000 HP Configured Packages - Types 1, 12, and 3R; and GA800 480V, 400 to 600 HP Configured Size Reduction. GA800 frame 12 is 39 percent smaller in width than previous generation A1000 drive and 34 percent lighter than A1000 drive; field configurable for 6-pulse or 12-pulse input and accepts Type 12 external heatsink kit. The new high-power packages have various configuration options and offer the same power ratings as the frame 12 standard drives.

Machine Vision Application
Teledyne FLIR IIS, a Teledyne Technologies company (Richmond, Canada), announced its Dragonfly S 5MP is the first camera in the new Dragonfly S series to enter full production. Designed as an entry point for machine vision applications, the Dragonfly S streamlines rapid prototyping of imaging systems and ensures smooth transition into production manufacturing. The cameras are optimized for size, weight, power, and cost, addressing fundamental machine vision application needs without unnecessary complexity. The cameras are ideal for a range of applications from industrial automation and robotics to medical imaging and scientific research. The cameras are supported by the Spinnaker® 4 SDK and are GenICam compliant. The on-board buffer ensures reliable data transmission to the host system, preventing incomplete or dropped images. For embedded applications, the cameras can extend USB3 bus power to drive peripherals like small LEDs and electronics (up to 120 mA) via the GPIO port with minimal cabling. A complete evaluation kit is available for CS-mount camera variants to facilitate camera selection, enabling the creation of seven distinct camera configurations.

Motor Positioning Module
Akribis Systems (Beverly, MA) has introduced its SGR Series rod motor positioning module featuring repeatable, submicron accuracy. As equipment and systems in dynamic industries like semiconductor, biotechnology, precision assembly and battery manufacturing continually get smaller and faster, submicron-level positioning accuracy is critically important. The SGR module comes equipped with a high-precision Akribis RDM-A Series coreless direct drive rod motor, linear guide rail, and integrated optical encoder. The integrated RDM-A rod motor leverages the high torque constant of direct drive technology, while the air gap between the coil and motor ensures force consistency. Thanks to the rod motor’s ironless construction, it also ensures cog-free operation. A contact-free optical incremental encoder provides 0.2 μm resolution for exceptional repeatability. Further features of the SGR rod motor module include compact size, simple structure and a strong aluminum housing, and economical configuration.
