Artemis II: Capturing the Moon Through Orion's Windows

During the Artemis II lunar flyby, the crew spent approximately seven hours operating cameras through the Orion spacecraft windows to collect imagery and supporting data from the Moon’s far side. The resulting images, along with associated audio and telemetry, were downlinked to Earth and are already under analysis by engineering and science teams.

These datasets are informing assessments of lunar surface geology, validating human‑in‑the‑loop imaging operations in cislunar space, and supporting the design of future exploration and science missions that will underpin a sustained human presence on the Moon.
