Real-Time Nanoscale Imaging Could Accelerate Defense-Critical Materials Research

Researchers at Argonne National Laboratory and partner DOE labs are using foundation models to transform x-ray and neutron imaging into real-time scientific intelligence. The SYNAPS-I project combines high-performance computing, advanced photon sources, and nanoscale imaging to accelerate analysis by more than 100x—with implications for semiconductor inspection, quantum systems, and next-generation defense-critical materials research.
