Each year on June 23, International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) shines a global spotlight on the innovators shaping our world — recognizing the achievements of women engineers and the critical role they play in advancing technology across industries. The tradition was launched by the U.K.-based Women's Engineering Society (WES) in 2014 as a national initiative, and achieved global status with recognition by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2017.
