altFairchild Semiconductor (South Portland, ME) released critical conduction mode (CRM) power factor correction controller (PFC) integrated circuits (ICs), the FAN7529 and FAN7530. Both units use a variable on-time control method for Total Harmonic Distortion performance (<10% at 25% load, 265 VAC), and also meet stand-by power regulations by reducing input-voltage sensing loss to approximately 100 milliwatts. Overall power loss can be reduced by 200 milliwatts via the use of an internal voltage PWM method. Error amplifiers enable the devices to use a higher Rfb (output-voltage-sensing resistor) over 1 megohm.
