The GE680 CCD vision camera from Prosilica, Vancouver, Canada, runs 200-plus frames per second at VGA resolution and up to 1,500 frames per second when using a 25 × 25 region of interest. The camera’s Gigabit Ethernet interface is capable of sustained data rates of 125 MB/second, and it operates over standard Cat5e Ethernet cable at lengths to 100 meters. Longer distances are possible using Gigabit Ethernet switches or fiber optics.
The camera is suitable for applications in machine vision, industrial inspection, test and measurement, motion capture, and security. It includes a progressive scan CCD sensor with global/snapshot shutter, external trigger and sync, general-purpose I/O, and region of interest readout. Other features include frame rate controls, auto and fixed exposure controls, extensive binning modes, and multi-camera synchronization. It is available in monochrome or color models; color models have output formats such as direct RGB color interpolation that minimizes CPU load on the host computer.
