OmniVision Technologies (Santa Clara, CA) has announced the OV8865, an 8- megapixel CameraChip™ sensor. The sensor features an improved 1.4-micron OmniBSI-2™ pixel.

The OV8835 CameraChip sensor includes a 50-percent reduction in dark current and a 5-percent improvement in dynamic range. The 1/3.2 OV8865 supports an active array of 3264 × 2448 pixels (8-megapixel) operating at 30 frames per second (FPS).

The sensor captures 1080p high definition (HD) video at 30 FPS, or 720p HD video at 60 FPS, at 100 percent horizontal field of view. The OV8865’s 2 × 2 binning functionality, with post-binning resampling filter, minimizes spatial artifacts and removes image artifacts around sharp edges. The OV8865 fits into a thin 8.5 × 8.5 × 5 mm module.
