Load Adaptor

Zero-Max (Plymouth, MN) introduced the Model 650 Overhung Load Adaptor that's designed to provide more radial and axial load support for hydraulic motors and pumps. The SAE B Model 650 is in the middle of the company's range of load adaptor sizes ranging from the smallest 200 SAE A mount model to the largest 1500 SAE F mount model. The new adaptor features a cast iron housing, 130,000 PSI stress-proof steel shaft, and heavy-duty spherical roller bearings. Designed for either face or foot mounting applications, it handles speeds up to 3500 RPM and is manufactured to ISO 9001:2008 quality standards. Overhung load adaptors protect the shaft seal of the motor, which can improve the operational life of the motor in harsh environment applications.

Miniature Track Actuators

Actuonix Motion Devices (Victoria, BC, Canada) introduced the T16 Miniature Track Actuators in a variety of configurations. Eighteen new models offer a variety of stroke lengths and forces in both an S and a P series. The S series features end-limit switches, and the P series provides an analog position feedback signal that can be input to an external controller. The track actuators offer a lightweight design; strokes from 100 mm to 300 mm; and gearing of 22:1, 63:1 and 256:1 for maximum forces up to 67 pounds. The actuators are compatible with the company's Linear Actuator Control board for custom speed, stroke length, and precision settings.

Electric Linear Rod Actuator

Tolomatic (Hamel, MN) announced the RSX family of hydraulic-class electric linear rod actuators capable of 50,000 lbf/222.5 kN or higher. The initial offering, the RSX-096, is capable of 30,000 lbf. The actuator's heavy-duty construction includes tie-rods and Type III hardcoat anodized aluminum or zinc-plated steel. A standard anti-rotate feature prevents the rod from rotating without external guidance. Rated IP67, the actuator resists water from a light wash-down and dust from outdoor environments. The RSX actuator is also rated for extreme conditions, including cold weather operation. The “Your Motor Here” feature supports servo motors and gearboxes up to 215-mm frame size. Additional features include an access port for re-lubrication and a breather/purge port to prevent ingress into the actuator.

Teardrop Accelerometer

PCB Piezotronics, Inc. (Depew, NY) released a miniature teardrop ICP® accelerometer. Model 352A74 has a sensitivity of 100 mV/g and a measurement range of ±50 g peak. The sensor is hermetically sealed in a low-profile titanium housing and is adhesively mounted. It mounts in tight spaces with a flexible one-foot, twisted pair integral cable. The cable is spliced into a heavier gauge coaxial cable for a length of 10 feet, terminating in a 10-32 connector. Built-in microelectronic signal conditioning circuitry provides a low-noise, low-impedance output signal while permitting long distance signal transmission. It operates in −65 to +250 °F temperatures and survives accidental shock inputs to ±5,000 g.

Mechatronic Drive

The Smart Gear g350 from Lenze Americas (Uxbridge, MA) is a compact mechatronic drive unit combining a gearbox, motor, electronics, and software. It is tailored to horizontal material flow tasks, and is available with torques of 25, 50, and 75 Nm in basic or advanced levels (including brake). The g350 unit blends the motor and gearbox elements, so the gear ratio slips far into the motor housing. A fixed motor speed can be adapted via an application for any NFC-enabled smart-phone. At the same torque, speeds ranging from 42 to 216 rpm can be selected at the g350 gearbox output. The package comes with a zero-backlash gear mounted and dialed in on a precision grade high-capacity bearing. The product has indexing precision as low as ±30 arc-sec with repeatability down to ±5.0 arc-sec, and handles speeds up to 632 RPM. Hexapod

Aerotech Inc. (Pittsburgh, PA) added the HEX300-230HL to its HexGen family of hexa-pods. The HEX300-230HL is actuated with six struts built with precision preloaded bearings, ball screws, and drive components. It is driven by the company's AC brushless, slotless servomotors to provide minimum incremental motion of 20 nm in XYZ and 0.2 rad for θxθyθz. Load capacity is 45 kg. The hexapod's platform and base can be modified with user-specific features or mounting patterns. It features a 100-mm diameter clear aperture in the platform, while a 60-mm diameter clear aperture in the base allows workpiece access from the bottom. Motor Smart Sensor

The Ability™ Smart Sensor from ABB (Cary, NC) uses compact sensors to pick up data from low voltage (LV) motors and then provides information about motor health and performance via a smartphone or a dedicated web portal. Sensor modules can be factory fitted on new motors or retrofitted on installed motors, and they are available for motors made by ABB and for non-ABB motors. The sensors are CE certified and compatible with safe-area induction motors for direct on-line S1 duty, ABB IEC sizes 160-450, and ABB NEMA sizes 140-449. Signal Conditioner

Alliance Sensors Group (Moorestown, NJ) has expanded its line of LVDT/RVDT signal conditioners to include the SC-100 DIN-rail mountable AC-LVDT signal conditioner module. It offers built-in null indication and simple front panel pushbuttons to set zero and full scale. The SC-100 was specifically designed to be compatible with both the Marposs and Solartron analog pencil gaging probes. Features include power inputs from 15 to 30 V DC; four LVDT excitation frequencies (2.5, 5.0, 7.5, and 10.0 KHz); six analog DC outputs (0 to 5, 0 to 10, −10 to 10, 0.5 to 4.5, 1 to 5, and 0.5 to 9.5 VDC); and two current-loop DC outputs of 4-20 mA or 0-20 mA (sourcing). Programmable Logic Controller

AutomationDirect (Cumming, GA) released the BRX programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The compact PLCs offer built-in data logging, motion control, serial and Ethernet communication, an interchangeable (hot-swappable) communications port, and integrated high-speed I/O. Support for EtherNet/IP; Modbus RTU; and TCP, ASCII, and custom protocols is also included. Designed as standalone controllers with expansion capabilities, these micro PLC units are available in four distinct form factors: M series (no onboard I/O), 10-point series, 18-point series, and 36-point series. The BRX platform does not require a base or backplane, and the controller units can be expanded with up to eight additional I/O modules.

Micro PM Motor

CI Kasei (Tokyo, Japan) announced a new family of 12-mm O.D. micro slotless brushless permanent magnet (PM) motors. The four motors have integrated speed control electronics, and provide stall or peak torque values ranging from 0.88 mNm (0.125 oz-in) up to 1.14 mNm (0.161 oz-in). The shorter C12C-X1-S and C12C-X2-S models use sleeve bearings and operate at 6480 RPM and 7920 RPM, respectively. The ball bearing models, C12C-X2-S-B and C12C-X2-S, are used in applications that handle heavier application loads. All models have current consumption below 25 mA. The speed constant varies from 2.14 to 2.16 kRPM/volt for the C12C-X1 models, and 2.60 to 2.64 kRPM/volt for the C12C-X2 models.

Four stack sizes provide 80 oz-in (0.56 Nm) through 430 oz-in (3 Nm) continuous torque, with top speeds from 1000 to 4000 RPM. The company's QuickControl® programming environment provides for two programming threads in addition to an active motion. PC and Motion Controller Combo

Trio Motion Technology LLC (Freeport, PA) offers the PC-MCAT 64 combination PC and motion controller. A 1.91-GHz Intel Atom E3845 quad-core processor is used to drive both a motion controller and a fanless, compact PC that can run user applications under Windows. The PC-MCAT software uses a real-time extension to allow both Windows and the motion controller to run directly on their own processor cores. It can run up to 64 axes of EtherCAT motion, the company's Flexslice I/O, and any compatible device on the network. Load Point Assembly

Hardy Process Solutions (San Diego, CA) has expanded its OneMount™ line of load point assemblies to include a model designed for small hoppers, tank weighing systems, bagging machines, and dynamic low-capacity applications such as checkweighing and conveyor scales. The Hardy OneMount with Advantage ® beam sensors allows a vessel or hopper to be installed, bolted, and welded using the mount itself and without installation accessories. The system's integral spacers carry the full-rated capacity without the load cells installed. A 360° checking mechanism allows load points to be installed in any direction, and electronic calibration and matched load cells speed up the installation process. Load cells can be replaced with minimal tank jacking (1/8”), and matched mV/V/ohm load cells can be replaced without recalibration. A self-centering rocker returns the weighing system to proper alignment after experiencing shear forces. The beam sensor has a capacity of 22 lbs to 550 lbs and an error rating of 0.02% of rated output. Optional dynamic stabilization rods are available to reduce vibration noise on the sensor for better resolution.

Autonomous Mobile Robot

Mobile Industrial Robots (Odense, Denmark) announced the MiR200 mobile robot. The autonomous robots do not require installation of sensors or magnets into factory floors for guidance. The MiR200 includes an updated web-based user interface that features customizable dashboards, improved mapping, multi-level permissions, and comprehensive browser support. The MiR200 has a payload capacity of 200kg/440lbs, and offers a MiRHook option for autonomous towing of carts up to 500kg/1102lbs. An ESD-compliant exterior supports electronic assembly applications where parts being transported must be protected from electrostatic discharge. Six separate sensor systems feed data to the robot's real-time navigation and safety algorithms. Full 360-degree scanning allows the robot to safely back up. Additional sensors prevent blindspots by identifying obstacles above the robot, and can look ahead and down to identify holes or stairwells and clear obstacles such as glass walls.

UR+ provides an online showroom with access to products verified to work with UR's collaborative robots, including grippers, software, sensors, and vision cameras. One UR+ product is based on FESTO's electric linear-axis EGC-HD and CMMP-M3 servo drive, and extends the reach of the UR 6-axis robots through a horizontal or vertical 7th axis. Warner Linear (South Beloit, IL) announced the H-Track electric actuator with self-contained hydraulic actuation. The H-Track has a force rating of 4800 lbs. (21 kN), has less than .3 cc/min. initial drift, is immune to vibrational drifting once seated, and hydraulically self-locks during load reversals while holding its position without power. Oldham Couplings

Ruland Manufacturing Co. (Marlborough, MA) offers oldham couplings for actuator driven systems. The oldham couplings are zero-backlash, have a balanced design, and provide parallel misalignment capabilities. The three-piece design can couple an actuator and motor that have keyed or keyless shafts with inch or metric bores. Wireless Drive Control

Siemens Industry, Inc. (Elk Grove Village, IL) introduced the Sinamics V20 Smart Access web server module. The module is designed to mount directly onto a drive, transforming a mobile device or laptop into a virtual operator panel for drive control. Smart Access allows monitoring of the drive status including speed, current, voltage, temperature, and power. It also monitors drive servicing, with an overview of alarms, faults, and individual values. Fault codes can be transferred via e-mail to a local service provider, while the immediate status of all digital and analog inputs and outputs can be checked at a glance. The module can be accessed from up to 100 meters away, even when the drive is in difficult-to-access installations. Utilizing WPA2 security, the web server module supports both iOS and Android operating systems, along with commonly used HTML5-capable web browsers such as Chrome, Safari, and Internet Explorer.

Actuator with Servo Motor

Thomson tested a wide range of configurability options, and provides a tool that helps map applications to motor size. The tool also supplies downloadable configurable 3D CAD models. Parameters such as length, motor orientation, mounting adapters, and screw leads are customizable. Once the actuator/motor combination is selected, the RediMount™ motor mounting system is used for implementation. The RediMount system also provides the ability to fit more than 600 motor alternatives to the PC Series actuators. Magnetic Encoder

POSITAL (Hamilton, NJ) released the IXARC magnetic absolute rotary encoders with CANopen interfaces. The encoders are also available with SSI, EtherNet/IP, EtherCat, Powerlink, Profbus DP, and Profinet interfaces. The CANopen communication interface features the autobaud function, so these encoders can be directly connected to a CANopen network without the need to manually set transmission speeds. Diagnostic LEDs show device status. A variety of connection options are available, including cables of various lengths and radially or axially oriented M12 or M23 connectors. Housings with bus-in/bus-out connectors are available for applications where it is convenient to connect several devices in series (daisy chain).
