Color Transmission Calibration Slide

Developed with input from bright-field microscopy experts, the IAM-9C-SECCAL color transmission calibration slide from APPLIED IMAGE Inc. (Rochester, NY) offers NIST-traceable color integrity of digitally captured microscopy images. The slide contains 24 colors in a 4 × 6 array, similar to the MacBeth color checker. Each of the 24 4150-μm-diameter patches is individually calibrated. Smaller patches from 1000 to 150 μm are exposed and processed at the same time to produce good correlation of the large calibrated patches to the smaller ones. The color calibration slide is manufactured, serialized and individually calibrated utilizing a state-of-the art spectrophotometer.

Automated Doublet Alignment Module

Two methods are used for aligning doublets: manual alignment and automated active alignment. Switching between these methods is costly, so many manual users are wary about making the change. To address this problem, Schenk has developed a new alignment module, the LensAlign 2D Air, for devices in the OptiCentric® series from TRIOPTICS (Wedel, Germany). LensAlign 2D Air enhances the system by adding an automatically controlled air manipulator. During rotation, the upper lens is moved into the tolerance range of the centration by software-controlled air pulses, instead of manually. A tolerance range can be specified for this purpose and is then shown in the software as a target circle.

Polarization Cameras

4D Technology Corporation (Tucson, AZ) has introduced a new line of polarization cameras for image enhancement, stress measurement, polarimetry and other applications. The PolarCam™ snapshot micropolarizer camera simultaneously captures four polarization states in each video frame. The cameras utilize CMOS technology sensors, enabling up to 164 frames/second imaging rate at 1700 x 1200 pixel resolution. A high-resolution model captures 3.8MP frames for detailed analysis of polarization even in fast-changing scenes. Optional PolarView™ software provides real-time display and calculation of key polarization parameters, including Degree and Angle of Linear Polarization, S0, S1 and S2 Stokes parameters, and an Enhanced Polarization Image.

Solar Energy Harvester ICs

Saelig Company, Inc. (Fairport, NY) has introduced the patented Sol Chip Saturn802 Energy Harvester IC, a unique photovoltaic (PV) cell which can produce output voltage levels of 0.75V, 1.5V, 2.25V, 3.0V, 4.5V, and 9V, which existing solar cells cannot do. The maximum power which can be obtained in full daylight is around 10mW, or 55uW in office lighting, so the Saturn802 IC is targeted at low-power applications. The size of the die is approximately 1cm x 1cm, and the stable voltage levels are available from separate pins of the device. The IC can be used with or without a back-up battery.
