DBD Innovations

Iontophoresis is a well-researched technique for delivering medicines and cosmetic agents through the skin. Current techniques, however, are inefficient, and existing devices are often expensive, bulky, and awkward. A Dielectric Barrier Discharge Iontophoresis (DBDI) solution enhances the efficacy of existing remedies by applying a small electronic device to the treated area.

Due to the high voltage and high frequency of the DBD discharge, its application augments the mobility of all hydrolyzed molecules; conventional iontophoresis only facilitates the transport of ions. Application of the DBD to the tissue also provides effective sterilization. The handheld device will be equipped with communication hardware and software, and datalogging via a mobile electronic device, such as a tablet or cell phone.
