Telecentric Lenses

Edmund Optics (EO) (Barrington, NJ) has introduced TECHSPEC® MercuryTL™ Liquid Lens Telecentric Lenses. These integrated lenses utilize the unique features of telecentric lenses, such as eliminating parallax (or perspective) error and combine them with a liquid lens, which electronically controls the focus. The liquid lens is used to focus the telecentric lens, changing its curvature. TECHSPEC® MercuryTL™ Liquid Lens Telecentric Lenses are available in four models, with primary magnifications (PMAG) of 0.15X, 0.25X, 0.37X and 0.75X. The RoHS compliant, C-Mount telecentric lenses feature a maximum camera sensor format of ½" and an aperture of f/10.

Intraocular Lens Sorting Workstation

OptiSpheric® IOL PRO 2 from TRIOPTICS (Wedel, Germany) is a fully automated test system designed and optimized for use in the production of intraocular lenses (IOL). It measures all optical parameters in compliance with the ISO 11979 standard. Whereas the IOL measurement is fully automated, the sorting of the lenses is carried out manually. To facilitate this manual step, TRIOPTICS recently introduced its Workstation IOL. The Workstation IOL’s main feature is a display that indicates for each lens if the quality inspection has been passed. After the measurement process, the test results are automatically transmitted to the customer’s database and to the display.

Single-Chip 1080p LCOS Microdisplay

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) has introduced the OP02220 — the industry’s first 1080p liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) microdisplay with integrated driver functions and memory. The OP02220 has a pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080 and is built with our 4.5-micron pixel technology, allowing the microdisplay to have a 0.39-inch diagonal display size. With the integrated driver design, power consumption is significantly lower when compared with two-chip solutions, which extends battery life. This microdisplay is ideal for wearable AR applications and is also suitable for the general-projection and pico-projector markets.

50 Megapixel CCD Image Sensor

ON Semiconductor (Phoenix, AZ) is enabling more efficient inspection of smartphone displays with the introduction of a new 50-megapixel (MP) resolution charge-coupled device (CCD) image sensor. The KAI-50140 is designed in a 2.18 to 1 aspect ratio to match the format of modern smartphones, reducing the number of image captures required to inspect a full display. The 4.5 µm Interline Transfer CCD pixel used in the KAI-50140 provides high resolution with a true electronic (global) shutter while preserving critical imaging performance. The new device supports frame rates up to 4 fps through the use of flexible 1, 2, or 4 output readout architecture.
