Blue Pulsed Laser Diode Module

OSI Laser Diode (LDI) (Edison, NJ) launched a blue 450-nm pulsed laser diode module that includes an electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device. The new CVB 450-TO56R gallium nitride (GaN) laser diode module is optically coupled to a 200/230/500 µm fiber pigtail. It features peak optical power at 2 watts (minimum), an absolute maximum forward current at 2500 mA, with a threshold current of 300 mA (typical). The center wavelength is 450 nm (typical) with a 440 nm (minimum) and 460 nm (maximum) spectral range. The device has a spectral width (root mean square, or RMS) of 1 nm. Operating temperatures range from -40 °C to 85 °C.

Laser Power Sensor

The Coherent (Santa Clara, CA) PowerMax PRO OEM is a new laser power sensor that utilizes Coherent’s patented transverse thermoelectric detector technology, combining the response speed of a photodiode with the broadband wavelength coverage, large detection area, dynamic range, and laser damage resistance of a thermopile. The new PowerMax model is particularly useful with CO2 lasers, where its high power handling capability, large active area (15 x 15 mm²) and broadband spectral response deliver fast, accurate and low noise measurements. It is also well matched for measuring ultra-short pulse industrial lasers with output in the ultraviolet, since an available coating prevents exposure related drift in detector response, such as occurs with photodiodes.

Image Sensor

OmniVision Technologies, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) announced the OV48B, its first 48 megapixel (MP) image sensor featuring a 0.8 micron pixel size to enable high resolution smartphone cameras in a 1/2" optical format. Built on OmniVision’s PureCel® Plus stacked die technology, the OV48B integrates an on-chip 4-cell color filter array and hardware re-mosaic, which provides 48 MP Bayer output in real time. In low light conditions, this sensor can use near-pixel binning to output a 12 MP image with four times the sensitivity. This new sensor also features both DPHY and CPHY MIPI interfaces, which enables fast frame rates using fewer pins. Additionally, the OV48B includes 2x2 microlens phase detection autofocus (ML-PDAF) to boost accuracy, especially in low light.

Pitch-and-Roll Stages

OES (Van Nuys, CA) offers an expanded series of pitch-and-roll stages to meet the requirements of applications such as: Angle range - 20° (± 10 °), 30 ° (± 15 °), and 90 ° (± 45 °), height of rotation, size (footprint), and load capacity. Typical accuracies for each stage are: Repeatability: ± 4 minutes (240 arc seconds), positional accuracy ± 8 minutes (480 arc seconds), and backlash ± 3 minutes (180 arc seconds). The precision, pitch-and-roll stages are available with either stepper motors with knobs for manual adjustment, or quadrature optical encoders on stepper motors for position verification. They are also available with servo motors for closed loop operation and higher operating speed.

Diode Lasers

Omicron (Rodgau, Germany) has introduced a new diode laser series called LuxX.HSA. With ultra-fast, analogue modulation of intensity up to 150 megahertz, digital modulation with more than 250 megahertz and an electronic shutter with full modulation depth up to more than 500 kilohertz, the LuxX.HSA lasers have unique modulation speeds in their compact size of only 4 x 4 x 10 cm. The LuxX.HSA diode lasers are equipped with integrated RS-232 and USB2.0 interfaces. The beam is generated with a diameter of approximately one millimeter or optionally 0.7mm 1/e².

Fast Neutron Detectors

Inrad Optics (Northvale, NJ) has launched a new suite of Scintinel™ stilbene radiation detectors for fast neutron detection. Ranging from one-inch to five-inch diameters, these devices integrate a stilbene scintillation crystal to a photomultiplier tube with voltage divider electronics.The primary advantages of Scintinel™ stilbene are its high sensitivity to neutrons and excellent discrimination between neutrons and gamma-ray radiation. False calls caused by benign gamma sources are virtually eliminated when seeking special nuclear material.

Optical Blind Mate Interconnects

Reflex Photonics (Kirkland, Canada) introduced new LightCONEX® active optical blind mate interconnects compatible with the upcoming VITA 66.5 standard and supported by the Sensor Open System Architecture (SOSA™) consortium. Expanding on the LightCONEX style A compatible with VITA 66.4 aperture, Reflex Photonics is launching its style B and style C, both compatible with VITA 67.3 type C, D and E standard apertures. These VITA 67.3 apertures can be populated with modules that are either single active, dual active/passive, or a combination of optical and RF coaxial connectors.

5GigE Cameras

LUCID Vision Labs, Inc. (Richmond, BC, Canada) announced production of its Atlas 16.8 MP and 19.6 MP cameras over 5GBASE-T PoE. The new 5GigE Atlas models feature the latest high resolution Sony Pregius global shutter CMOS image sensors including the 16.8 MP IMX387 with a resolution of 5456 x 3076 px running at 33 fps, and the 19.6 MP IMX367 with a resolution of 4416 x 4428 px running at 28 fps. With a 4/3” format, both these models are equipped with a TFL lens mount (M35 x 0.75) which can easily be adapted to F-mount and C-mount. Despite its compact 55 x 55 mm size, Atlas supports large format APS-C image sensors and features Active Sensor Alignment for superior optical performance.
