Uncooled Thermal Lens

British threat detection specialist Silent Sentinel (Hertfordshire, UK) has expanded its Aeron Ranger suite of cameras to include a brand-new 25-150mm Long Wavelength Infrared (LWIR) uncooled thermal lens, which replaces the 50-150mm lens. The new F1.4 lens features a 6x motorised optical zoom as well as a narrow horizontal field of view: 25.4° (W) - 4.1° (T) and is capable of detecting human targets at ranges of over three kms and vehicles at a range of ten kms (based on Johnson’s Criteria). They can operate within a temperature range of -30°C to +65°C and are tested to an IP67 level of environmental protection.

CO2 Lasers

Luxinar (Kingston Upon Hull, UK) has launched the SR AOM range of sealed CO2 lasers for high-precision applications that require a reduced heat affected zone (HAZ). The new SR 10 AOM and SR 25 AOM, both available at a wavelength of 9.3µm and with rated powers of 150W for the SR 25 AOM and 75W for the SR 10 AOM, add value to the established SR series of sealed CO2 laser sources from Luxinar. The integrated acousto-optic modulator (AOM) creates much faster optical rise and fall times of less than 1µs, which can minimise unnecessary heat energy from typical pulse rise/fall times of approximately 60µs.

White Chip LEDs

ROHM Semiconductor (Santa Clara, CA) introduced their new CSL1104WB ultra-compact, high luminous intensity white chip LEDs. The CSL1104WB series achieves a high luminous intensity of 2.0cd in an ultra-compact 1608 size (1.6mm x 0.8mm = 1.28mm2), which was previously difficult to achieve. The result is the same luminosity as the current mainstream 3528 size PLCC package (3.5mm x 2.8mm = 9.8mm2), but in an 87% smaller form factor. The products are optimized for applications requiring high brightness white light emission, such as IoT devices, drones, and other battery-equipped applications.

High Speed Laser Sensor

Acuity Laser (Portland, OR) announced the release of its AR550 High Speed Laser Sensor. Coming from the company’s short range sensor product group, the Acuity Laser AR550 is an off-shoot of their popular AR500. At sampling rates up to 70kHz, the AR550 high speed laser sensor comes in one compact package size with 9 different measurement ranges: 2mm, 5mm, 10mm, 25mm, 50mm, 100mm, 250mm, 500mm, and 750mm. The sampling rate of the AR550 can be specified and the high-speed sensor can transmit its highest sampling rates via Ethernet output.

Night Vision Image Sensor

BAE Systems (San Jose, CA) recently demonstrated its new HWK1411 digital night vision CMOS sensor. The 1” 1.6MP HWK1411 image sensor incorporates BAE Systems’ sCMOS 3.0 BSI technology into a large 8.0 μm pixel, resulting in an ultra-low light capable sensor with market leading 0.5e- RMS read noise, capable of imaging down to 0.0001 lux (overcast starlight). Ideal for low SWAP mobile/portable applications, the HWK1411 is available as a packaged sensor, camera core (multichip module) or a complete camera module with lens.
