This software provides a portable, flexible memory testing application meeting the NASA Space Telecommunications Radio System (STRS) specification. As an STRS-compliant application, the tester application is portable to any STRS-compliant hardware/software platform. Thanks to configurable properties, the tester application can be adjusted for many different memory environments.

However, to the extent test and utility features are implemented by individual projects, they are typically not designed for portability and reuse. In some cases, these features are not really designed to any explicit requirements. Test and common utility features (both ground and in-flight) are nearly as important as actual communication capabilities. The software-defined radio (SDR), particularly the STRS, allows for designing portable test and utility applications that can be independently verified and then used by multiple projects.

This work is applicable to the NASA Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) Testbed on the International Space Station. It is also applicable to the JPL Universal Space Transponder (UST) project. In addition to the JPL STRS-compliant radio, there are STRS-compliant radios. This memory tester application would be usable to test those radios as well.
