The largest technical mobility event of the year, WCX 2020 SAE World Congress Experience draws nearly 9,000 mechanical, electrical, and software engineers; OEMs; Tier 1 suppliers; and R&D professionals to explore what’s next in mobility.

Taking place April 21-23 in Detroit, WCX features exhibits, an extensive technical program, professional development opportunities, and networking events.

Technical Program

WCX offers more than 800 hours of technical content — led by subject-matter experts from around the globe — that addresses today’s challenges and those beyond traditional vehicle engineering. The collaborative sessions are designed for all levels across the mobility industry and include roundtable discussions, moderated panels, and presentations.

More than 200 hours of technical content has been developed for powertrain/propulsion engineers or engineering managers dealing with ICE, hybrid, and full electric vehicles. Topics include technologies involved in driveline, engine boosting, fuel economy, fuel injection, IVT/CVT, new engine development, motor and power electronics, batteries, and fuel cells.

Forty sessions focus on issues around human factors, biomechanics, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, accident reconstruction, ADAS, vehicle impact, crashworthiness, tires, wheels, lights, and restraints. Automobile electronics sessions include intelligent transportation systems, software, electromagnetic compatibility, testing and instrumentation, vehicle diagnostics, simulation and modeling mechatronics, vehicle sensors and actuators, multimedia systems, vehicle information and communication security, and safety-critical systems.

Other technical sessions highlight emissions, environment, sustainability, and thermal management; integrated design and manufacturing including smart factories, robotics, and CAD/CAM; and advances in lightweight materials and high-strength steels, material selections for vehicle interiors, automotive-grade composites, and welding/joining applications.

Show Floor

The technology-driven show floor offers top-tier suppliers from across the industry, OEMs, manufacturers, and startups including specialty pavilions such as the Innovation Pavilion and Start-Up Pavilion. Also on the exhibit floor are executive tours, product demonstrations, information sessions, and one-on-one meetings.

The Leadership Summit on the show floor features experts discussing the critical business issues driving quality, performance, safety, design, development, and cost optimization of mobility. In this series of roundtable discussions, keynotes, and techtalks, executives from organizations like Toyota and Ford Motor Company share insights on the links between business and technology. Topics include The Smart City of Tomorrow, Automated Trucks, Continuity of Connectivity, Micro Mobility, and Hybrid and Battery-Electric Propulsion.
