Engineers working with a design application like SolidWorks know that more interactive capability in a design application means greater productivity. The key to better interactivity is the ability of the workstation to process the most complex models in a fast and fluid manner. Dell and NVIDIA work closely with Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Corp. to certify that the Dell Precision workstations with Quadro GPUs are optimized specifically for SolidWorks and can handle the workload. For the CAD user, this can mean greater performance and, more importantly, rock-solid stability.

While certifying systems for production-level use helps eliminate potential issues up front, in the event of a technical issue after your purchase, optional Dell ProSupport provides collaborative support with NVIDIA and Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks. In addition to reduced business downtime, customers benefit from end-to-end support with a single point of contact they can trust.

Continuing improvements in workstation graphics processing units (GPUs) allow users to dramatically increase interactivity with SolidWorks by upgrading existing workstations with the latest NVIDIA Quadro graphics. For example, a Dell Precision workstation running a current Quadro GPU, based on NVIDIA Fermi architecture, can deliver up to three times the performance of previous generations.

Compared to an older generation Quadro FX 1700, the Quadro 2000, based on NVIDIA Fermi architecture, delivers 3x the interactive performance.*SPEC® and the benchmark name SPECviewperf® are registered trademarks of the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation.

Faster graphics performance allows for more interactivity when working with complex models, and also allows engineers to use more complicated display modes to showcase models with enhanced levels of realism. By upgrading older workstations to the latest models, users don’t need to be concerned about the tradeoffs of better visual images at the cost of reductions in productivity.

Dell Precision workstations with Quadro graphics support the most realistic display modes offered within SolidWorks. Enabling RealView, an enhanced graphics display mode, allows SolidWorks to display models using sophisticated rendering modes that enhance the realism of materials and textures applied to parts and models. By enhancing the level of realism and using high-quality displays such as Dell’s UltraSharp™ 2007FP 20in Monitor, users can accurately gauge how a finished product will look.

Dell Precision workstations with Quadro graphics also allow SolidWorks users to harness the power of GPU-based ray tracing to create renders of complex models using precise environmental lighting. Using an application such as Bunkspeed Move, users can take advantage of the fully integrated NVIDIA iray2 engine to create fast, realistic renders, to produce high-quality stills and animations. SolidWorks assemblies can be opened directly within Move, providing a simple design workflow.

By offering the highest-performance workstations and high-quality professional graphics, Dell and NVIDIA have joined forces to provide an enhanced SolidWorks experience for CAD users.
