VMETRO (Houston, TX) has released the VirtexTM-5 LX FPGA-based PCI/PCI-X and PMC board-level products. Designed for high-performance general-logic applications, the Virtex-5 is the second generation of Xilinx FPGA to use the ASMBLTM (Advanced Silicon Modular Block) column-based architecture that enables Xilinx to fabricate four FPGA platforms with varying feature mixes suitable to different application areas.

The first of the Virtex-5 products consists of DEV-FPGA05 PCI/PCI-X boards and PMC-FPGA05 PMC modules that include a Xilinx XC5VLX110 FPGA and multiple banks of QDR SRAM and DDR2 SDRAM (this memory capacity permits the storing of large data sets). The provided Windows software includes utilities for configuring the FPGA and FLASH memory, as well as high-speed PCI-X DMA support. DSP functions are supported by DSP48E slices featuring dedicated 25-bit × 18-bit two's complement multiplier, optional pipeline stages for performance, optional 48-bit accumulator for MAC operations, integrated adder, and optional bitwise logic modes. The 550MHz, 36 Kbit block RAM/FIFOs include true dual-port RAM cells with independent port-width selection from ×1 to ×72.
