WinSystems (Arlington, TX) has introduced the PPM-GX, a PC/104-Plus compatible single board computer (SBC) that operates throughout the temperature range of - 40°to 85°C without needing a fan. The board integrates the CPU, video, Ethernet, USB, COM, LPT, mouse, audio, and keyboard controllers onto one board that measures 3.6" x 3.8". The PPM-GX supports up to 512-Mbytes of SDRAM and offers support for rotational and solid state disks.

Two floppy disk drives and two UltraDMA 66 IDE drives can be connected, and there is a socket for a CompactFlash card which can support up to an 8 Gbyte device. The PPM-GX is based upon the GX500@1W processor from AMD (Sunnyvale, CA). It is a Pentium-class CPU with an x86-native instruction set and 32KB of integrated L1 cache that runs Windows CE, Windows XP embedded, Linux, and other x86-compatible operating systems such as VxWorks and QNX. A controller integrated into the processor supports both CRT and flat panel displays with resolutions to 1600 x 1200 (CRT) or 1280 x 1024 (flat panel). The PPM-GX also includes an Intel 10/100 Ethernet controller, four 16C550-compatible UARTs, and two USB ports. The computer also includes a floppy disk controller, an IDE hard disk interface, a PS/2 keyboard controller, a line printer interface, a mouse port, a battery-backed real-time clock, a power-fail reset circuit, and a programmable watchdog timer.
