Fairchild Semiconductor (South Portland, ME) offers the FSUSB30, a low-power, two-port, high-speed USB 2.0 switch that augments board real estate and downloading performances. The unit combines >720 MHz bandwidth (needed to pass the third harmonic), low on-capacitance (6 pF), and 8 kV ESD protection in a 1.4 × 1.8 × 0.55 mm UMLP device.

With high ESD protection, signals feature low edge and phase distortion. Configured as a double-pole double-throw (DPDT) switch, it switches between two high-speed (480 MBps) sources or a Hi-Speed and Full-Speed (12 Mbps) source. Low on-resistance is 6.6 Ohm (typical). The switch contains circuitry on the D+/D- pins, allowing the device to withstand an overvoltage condition when powered off. For a Vbus short circuit, the switch is expected to withstand such a condition for at least 24 hours. This device also is designed to minimize current consumption if the control voltage applied to the S pin is lower than the supply voltage. The switch is available in UMLP, MicroPak™, DQFN, and MSOP packages. It is lead (Pb)-free and meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard JSTD- 020C. It is compliant with current European Union regulations.
