Particularly compact Multi CHIPLEDs developed by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors raise the image quality in FormoLight Technologies' high performance LED Matrix TVs. Multi CHIPLEDs are the smallest RGB LED currently on the market, and their compact size permits a special image format. The LED Matrix TVs feature a pitch of 2.8 mm and high brightness of up to 4500 cd/m2. Water- and dust-proof housing allows for indoor and outdoor applications.

The RoHS-compliant, Pbfree Multi CHIPLEDs feature a typical wavelength of 625 nm, optical efficiency of 18 lm/W, and luminous intensity of 270.0 mcd.
In this display for interior use, the LEDs are not used as backlighting hidden from observers as in LCD appliances — they are clearly visible on the surface. They still remain undetected by observers because Multi CHIPLEDs are extremely small (1.6 mm x 1.6 mm, and 0.9 mm-thick) and hardly visible through the black LED housing. The black LED housing reflects almost no ambient light. The FormoLight display features rich colors, and sharp contours and depth of field — showing high-quality images rich in contrast.

Multi CHIPLEDs produce a homogenous image from every perspective. This homogeneity is based on two principles. On the one hand, the LEDs can be packed very closely because of their compact size — distance between pixels can be as little as 2 mm. On the other, the special casting material ensures a perfect color mix. The LED contains three chips (red, green, and blue) in thin-film or thin gallium nitrate (GaN) technology, each of which can be controlled separately. The color impression remains constant across the entire viewing angle and also appears brilliant viewed from the side.

Because of the LEDs’ sharp contrasts and high output, the high image quality is maintained even in very light rooms.
