Oriel Instruments (Bozeman, MT), a Newport Company, has introduced the LSH-7320 LED Class ABA Solar Simulator. Compared to conventional solar simulators with Xenon sources, the LED-based solar simulator provides fast turn-on, a much longer lifetime, and reduced waste heat for easy integration into glove boxes. The system is specifically designed to meet the requirements of the photovoltaic research market and provides a variable output from 0.1 to 1.1 suns over a 2 inch × 2 inch illumination area at a working distance of 12 inches (305 mm).
The LSH-7320 is certified to IEC 60904-9 2007, JIS C8912, and ASTM E927-10 standards and is rated Class A for Spectral Match, Class B for Uniformity, and Class A for Temporal Stability. To achieve Class A Spectral Match the LSH-7320 uses 10 LEDs with wavelengths over the range of 400-1100nm. The use of LEDs and careful attention to the electronics design allows the LSH-7320 to achieve typical temporal stability of <0.7% (for Class A stability must be <2%).
