Air Cylinders

AC Series air cylinders from Fujikura (Schaumburg, IL) feature a bed of air that surrounds the piston rod and prevents contact with the air bearing. Operating with zero friction, the cylinders have a non-contact structure that eliminates dust generation. Standard cylinder diameters range from 0.39 to 3.93". Standard strokes range from 0.79 to 6.30". Custom and larger cylinders are available. The air bearings are made of metal material. The cylinders are available in single action (push) and double action styles, with working temperatures ranging from 32 to 140 °F and working pressure ranges from 1.5 to 87 psi.

Rail Guides

SKF LLT profile rail guides from SKF Motion Technologies (Lansdale, PA) have the ball circuits placed in an X-arrangement to optimize load sharing in all four main load directions and accommodate moment loads while maintaining self-aligning capability. The arrangement compensates for mounting deviations, even under preload. Guides are available in sizes 15-45 with rail sizes up to 4000 mm in a single piece, with longer lengths available as attached rails. They are available with a variety of preload and precision classes, mounting configurations, and accessories. They can resist temperatures up to 100 °C and achieve speeds up to 5 m/s. The guides are supplied ready to mount and are factory pre-lubricated. Carriages are equipped with end seals, side seals, and inner seals, as well as an internal lubrication reservoir.

Electric Cylinder

The SPINDASYN® SEZ electric cylinder from AMK Automation (Carpentersville, IL) is a linear drive motor system in which the rotor is pressed directly onto the screw. The closed-loop positioning and force control make it suitable as an alternative to other linear technologies such as pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders, rack and belt drives, and linear motors. Several options are available for screw and strength length, motor type, and acceleration. Users can set multiple travel profiles and the cylinder can be integrated into machine automation processes and applications such as carton forming, palletizing, pick and place, cross-cutting, sealing plastics, and machine tooling.

Actuator

Hayward Flow Control (Clemmons, NC) announced the EAU1 Series compact quarter-turn actuator featuring an ISO5211-compliant mechanical mount. It can be direct-mounted to thermoplastic or metal quarter-turn valves. Rated at 120 in.lbs. in unidirectional on/off control, the actuator requires only three wires for complete control. An auxiliary switch is available for remote indication of open and closed positions. All field terminations are via a terminal strip located under the top cover. It features a corrosion-resistant glass-filled polypropylene housing with NEMA4/4X rating. All gearing is hardened steel. The actuator is available in 12 vac or vdc, 24 vac or vdc, 120 vac, and 230 vac voltages.

Industrial PC

Siemens (Munich, Germany) introduced the Simatic IPC127E industrial PC that is suitable for use as a gateway to connect machines with each other and the cloud. It enables data to be managed directly in the production environment, and networks existing systems with machinery of different manufacturers and different technological versions. It is equipped with a 2- or 4-core Atom processor with 2 or 4 GB RAM and a solid-state drive (up to 128 GB). Three LAN and four USB interfaces enable it to be integrated in existing automation systems. The all-metal enclosure enables it to be used maintenance-free even under harsh conditions.

Linear Positioning Stage

New Scale Technologies (Victor, NY) introduced the M3-LS-3.4 Linear Smart Stage, a compact linear positioning stage targeting embedded microscopes in automated instruments for 3D imaging, microelectronics inspection, and other applications where small size and high precision are essential. The stage has all control electronics embedded inside the stage. No external controller is needed; the controller accepts high-level motion commands via direct digital interface. No internal high voltage is needed or generated, and all positions are held with zero power and high stiffness. Closed-loop stepping uses an absolute position sensor inside the stage, with 0.5-micrometer resolution. The complete stage, including controller, measures 32 × 32 × 11 mm. The reduced-voltage piezoelectric microstage operates on 6 VDC and requires no high-voltage isolation.

Current Transducer

The AT/ATR-TH Series current transducer from NK Technologies (San Jose, CA) monitors three-phase loads, motors, machines, and buildings. The triple-aperture solid-core design features conductors that thread easily through the sensing windows (apertures) and reconnect on the other side. Transducer outputs are powered from an excitation voltage of 24 VAC or DC, or optionally 120 VAC, isolated from the monitored circuit. Three outputs are proportional to the AC current in each phase and a fourth represents the average of the three; each are available at any time. The sensor mounts on a back panel or a DIN rail and is designed to accommodate wire sizes for loads up to 200 amps. Applications include detecting over/under current conditions before they cause breakdowns in large machinery or interlock one process with another; detecting open discharge lines, clogged filters, or blocked intake to pumps in water delivery and treatment systems; and monitoring motor current draw, which should be nearly equal in all three phases. Features include analog signal proportional to AC current (both average and True RMS models available) and ranges of 0–10 to 0–200 amps.

Traction Drives

Rolling Motion Industries (North Babylon, NY) released the MAR-17-1-2.1 and MAR-23-1-2.1 one-way traction drives with six moving parts and an engineered traction fluid with a coefficient of friction of just 0.1 to 0.12. The traction drives have no metal-to-metal contact and no slippage or lost motion between the input and output shafts. The MAR17-1-2.1 is designed for speeds to 3600 rpm with 10 to 20 in/lbs of torque, and the MAR-23-1-2.1 is rated for 3600 rpm with 20 to 30 in/lbs of torque. They operate at temperatures that are lower than the motor's, with low vibration and no torque losses from 10 to 3000 rpm. Applications include pumps, blowers, fans, conveyers, medical applications, and other power transmission and motion applications. They are available with an optional overriding clutch and incorporate standard NEMA mounting dimensions.
