Microsemi Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Microchip Technology (Aliso Viejo, CA), announced the LX7720 radiation-tolerant motor control integrated circuit that works with a field programmable gate array (FPGA). Features include four half-bridge N-channel MOSFET drivers, four floating differential current sensors, pulse-modulated resolver transformer driver, three differential resolver sense inputs, six bi-level logic inputs, and fault detection. The circuit also features 100-krad total ionization dose (TID) and 50-krad enhanced low-dose radiation sensitivity. Power drivers are via external field-effect transistors (FETs). Linear Positioning Stage

New Scale Technologies (Victor, NY) introduced the M3-LS-3.4 Linear Smart Stage, a compact linear positioning stage targeting embedded microscopes in automated instruments for 3D imaging, microelectronics inspection, and other applications where small size and high precision are essential. The stage has all control electronics embedded inside the stage. No external controller is needed; the controller accepts high-level motion commands via direct digital interface. No internal high voltage is needed or generated, and all positions are held with zero power and high stiffness. Closed-loop stepping uses an absolute position sensor inside the stage, with 0.5-micrometer resolution. The complete stage, including controller, measures 32 × 32 × 11 mm. The reduced-voltage piezoelectric microstage operates on 6 VDC and requires no high-voltage isolation.

Current Transducer

The AT/ATR-TH Series current transducer from NK Technologies (San Jose, CA) monitors three-phase loads, motors, machines, and buildings. The triple-aperture solid-core design features conductors that thread easily through the sensing windows (apertures) and reconnect on the other side. Transducer outputs are powered from an excitation voltage of 24 VAC or DC, or optionally 120 VAC, isolated from the monitored circuit. Three outputs are proportional to the AC current in each phase and a fourth represents the average of the three; each are available at any time. Traction Drives

Rolling Motion Industries (North Babylon, NY) released the MAR-17-1-2.1 and MAR-23-1-2.1 one-way traction drives with six moving parts and an engineered traction fluid with a coefficient of friction of just 0.1 to 0.12. The traction drives have no metal-to-metal contact and no slippage or lost motion between the input and output shafts. The MAR17-1-2.1 is designed for speeds to 3600 rpm with 10 to 20 in/lbs of torque, and the MAR-23-1-2.1 is rated for 3600 rpm with 20 to 30 in/lbs of torque. They operate at temperatures that are lower than the motor's, with low vibration and no torque losses from 10 to 3000 rpm. The drives can control motors that range from 90 to 280 VDC, up to 5 amps/1.5 HP, using either 115 VAC or 230 VAC line sources. Onboard trim pots allow operators to set maximum and minimum speeds, acceleration and deceleration rates, and proportional and integral feedback gains. An onboard microprocessor allows for custom programming. Stepper Motor Positioning Stage

Analog Rotary Encoders

FRABA (Hamilton, NJ) offers POSITAL analog programmable rotary encoders for position control that accept a wide range of supply voltages. Outputs are either voltage (0-5V, 0.5-4, 5V, 0-10V, or 0.5-9.5V) or current (4-20 mA). The magnetic measurement mechanism is wear-free. The analog encoders are programmable with measurement characteristics that can be customized to meet specific application requirements. Rotary Vane Pump

The Pascal 2021 HW from Pfeiffer Vacuum (Nashua, NH) is a two-stage rotary vane pump suited for applications where water vapor is expected, such as low-temperature sterilization and drying. An optimized gas ballast system allows pumping of large volumes of vapor without condensation inside the pump, preventing accumulation of fluid that would adversely affect the service life of the pump and the pump oil. The pump utilizes special materials to resist aggressive chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide.
