Trio Motion Technology (Gloucestershire, UK) launched the DX4 servo drive and MX servo motor package. The servo drive has plug-and-play compatibility with Trio controllers and slice I/O systems and operates at 200V AC with power from 50W to 3kW. The drive extends high control performance to the motor shaft and features EtherCAT update rates down to 125 μs and 350% overload for high dynamic applications. The drive versions span 50W to 400W, 750W to 1.5kW, and 2kW to 3kW. The motors host 23-bit absolute multi-turn capability for positioning accuracy.

Magnetic Angle Sensor

ams Sensors (Elmhurst, IL) offers the posirot® PRAS1 magnetic angle sensor in a narrow rod design. The sensor measures 10.6 mm in diameter and has a length of 53 mm, making it suitable for very narrow installation spaces including door hinges.

The sensor measures rotational positions from 0° to 360° using a Hall effect sensor array and an external position magnet. The magnetic encoder technology is contactless and contains no moving parts.

The sensor housing is made of stainless steel. Measuring range is 0-15° to 0-360° (in 15° steps). It is available in the output types 0.5 to 10 V, 0.5 to 4.5 V, or 4 to 20 mA. It has a linearity of 0.3% of the measuring range. The sensor is available with incremental or digital output.

Draw Wires

Encoder Products (Sagle, ID) introduced LCX Series draw wire units that work with encoders to measure position and provide motion feedback in motion control applications. Wire lengths are available from 1 to 42.5 meters. The wires are available in three housing sizes: 80-mm casing with 1-, 2-, and 3-meter wire length options; 120-mm casing with 4- or 5-meter wire length options; and 135-mm casing with wire lengths from 6 meters to 42.5 meters. They work with encoders that have a clamping flange that is 36 mm in diameter and a shaft that is 10 mm in diameter and 20 mm in length.

Actuators and Slides

The SureMotion® LAHP series linear actuators, slides, and accessories from AutomationDirect (Cumming, GA) are XYZ gantry components that allow creation of a motion system with up to three axes of movement. The motor-ready linear actuators and sliding components have travel lengths of up to 910 mm. CNC-Loading Robots

Encoder

HEIDENHAIN (Schaumburg, IL) introduced the LIC 3100 motion feedback encoder for absolute positioning in machines in the semiconductor, metrology, and robotic industries. It is tolerant to contamination and has loose mounting tolerances. Graduation of the encoder is carried by a stainless-steel tape scale with a two-track graduation, resulting in a period of 80 microns. The tape scale is offered in rolls at 3-m, 5-m, and 10-m lengths and can be inserted into an aluminum extrusion or can be mounted directly to the motion axis surface with an adhesive backing on the steel tape. The reader head can output a measuring step of 10 nanometers and maintain a velocity of 10 meters per second.

Linear Guide

The Type FHS linear motion guide from THK (Schaumburg, IL) offers speeds reaching 15 m/s for applications requiring fast motion including robot transfer devices and laser cutters. The guide can be installed in horizontal, vertical, inverted, and wall-mounted orientations. Torque Limiter

ENEMAC GmbH (Kleinwallstadt, Germany) released the type ECA torque limiter for belt drives to reduce or prevent overload damage. Compared to conventional friction clutches, the torque limiter has high repeatability of the adjusted disengagement torque and re-engages after one turn. Linear Absolute Encoders

Renishaw (West Dundee, IL) launched FORTiS enclosed linear absolute encoders for use in harsh environments such as machine tools. They provide resistance to the ingress of liquids and solid debris contaminants and feature an extruded enclosure with longitudinally attached interlocking lip seals and sealed end caps. The readhead body is joined to a sealed optical unit by a blade that travels through the lip seals along the length of the encoder. Linear axis movement causes the readhead and optics to traverse the encoder’s absolute scale (which is fixed to the inside of the enclosure) without mechanical contact. The FORTiS-S™ is a standard-sized encoder available with measuring lengths from 140 to 3040 mm; the FORTiS-N™ is available with measuring lengths from 70 to 2040 mm.
