Micromachining Subsystem

SCANLAB GmbH (Puchheim, Germany) has introduced a new member of its precSYS product line. Five-axis precSYS subsystems enable industrial ultra-short-pulse (USP) laser micromachining of flexible, definable geometries with high aspect ratios. The availability of a subsystem optimized for 515-nm green lasers is particularly attractive in the electronics industry, where it allows creating probe cards with even finer lateral structures. That's exactly half the applied wavelength of a 1030-nm infrared laser, which leads to a much smaller spot size and enhanced lateral precision in processing challenging materials.

All precSYS scan solutions are galvo-based 5-axis subsystems for integration into laser machines. Thanks to their flexible laser beam positioning capabilities (in the x, y, z, α and β directions), these scan heads offer the highest freedom in developing new process strategies. Circular, elliptical or linear trajectories can be defined for processing in 2D or 3D.

Raman and Photoluminescence Microspectroscopy

Edesix (Edinburgh, Scotland) has launched its latest VideoBadge body worn camera (BWC), the VB-400. This latest body worn camera from Edesix has been designed to be a simple, unobtrusive addition to any uniform. The VB-400 has an IP67 ingress protection rating, and delivers full 1080p HD recording capabilities to capture evidence-quality footage, Bluetooth sensor monitoring, and built-in GPS functionality which will greatly simplify camera asset management across large estates. Connectors for PV Panels

TE Connectivity (TE) (Darmstadt, Germany) has introduced SOLARLOK 2.0 connectors. The new products enable photovoltaic system installers to make reliable connections easily. SOLARLOK 2.0 is a field-installable product that uses Insulation Displacement Contact (IDC) technology to create a connection between panels and cables without the need for any specialist tooling. The connectors incorporate a closed-spring-cage to ensure constant termination force. Cables do not have to be stripped prior to making a connection.

The new SOLARLOK 2.0 connectors incorporate the TE 1500V PV4-S solar interface; meet safety requirements specified in IEC 62852 / UL6703; are gel-filled and fully waterproof; achieve an IPX8 (1m/24hrs) rating under IEC standard 60529; are available in male (negative pole) and female (positive pole) versions; and can handle a wide range of double insulated solar wires according to EN50618 / IEC2630 (ZKLA), from AWG 14 to 10.

3D Laser Scanner

Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division (North Kingstown, RI) launched the RS6 laser scanner, a cutting-edge 3D laser scanner for the new generation of Absolute Arm portable measuring arm systems that was launched in 2018. This new scanner offers extremely high-density point-cloud data collection at high speeds and high accuracy. The RS6 now features SHINE - an advanced set of algorithms that allows RS6 to measure at the highest quality and accuracy setting with no reduction in laser scan line width or scanning frame rate.

The RS6 Laser Scanner boasts a scan line that is 150 millimeters wide at mid-range, representing a greater than 30 percent increase in surface area covered by each scan movement compared to the previous generation Absolute Arm laser scanner. The scanner also measures faster than its predecessor, with a threefold increase in frame rate to 300 Hertz.

Fiber Tips with Ball Lenses

Laser Components (Bedford, NH) can now provide custom ball lens profiles on the end faces of silica fibers. The plasma-based CMS process with ring-of-fire technology supports fiber diameters of 200, 365, 400, 550 and 600 μm, including other diameters within the limits of the equipment. For fibers used in medical applications, end-face processing can be carried out in a clean room in accordance with ISO 13485. The entire process is also compliant to ISO 13485 hygiene requirements.

Automatic Vision System

The L.S. Starrett Company (Athol, MA) has introduced its AV450 Automatic Vision System. Featuring a larger X,Y,Z measuring envelope of 18” × 14” × 8” (457 mm × 356 mm × 203 mm), the Starrett AV450 has high-resolution video zoom optics and it can be pre-programmed (CNC) for repetitive part inspection, or driven manually via a trackball for individual measurements. Throughput is enhanced by either QC5000 or MetLogix™ M3 software that controls video edge detection and multiple-channel fiber optic or LED illumination. Computer-controlled Quadrant (LED) ring lighting, sub-stage lighting, and optional through-the-lens lighting meet challenging illumination requirements.

Accuracy of the Starrett AV450 Automatic Vision System is 2.5 + 5L/1000 and reading resolution is 4 μin (0.1μm). Magnification on a 24” monitor, 1:1 pixel setting is 37× to 240 × 6.5:1 zoom and 25× to 300 × with a 12:1 zoom. The system has a 1.3 mega-pixel color digital video camera and a precision granite base. The AV450 has an external motion control unit and includes a Windows®-based operating system with an operator interface via a desktop PC with a 24” touchscreen monitor, as well as Wi-Fi network connectivity.

3D Cameras

The second generation of Basler (Ahrensburg, Germany) 3D cameras is ready to launch. Thanks to the latest Sony DepthSense™ ToF technology, the Basler blaze with GigE interface and VGA resolution is particularly suitable for measuring the position, location and volume of objects and for detecting obstacles. Equipped with the latest laser diode technology (VCSEL), the camera operates in the near-infrared spectrum, i.e. in the wavelength range around 940 nm, and is therefore also suitable for use under daylight conditions without compromise. With a multipart image consisting of a distance, intensity and confidence map and a frame rate of 30 frames per second (fps), it generates 3D point clouds and 2D gray images in real time within the camera, reducing the processor load of the host system.

The integrated Sony DepthSense™ IMX556PLR-C sensor with CAPD (Current Assisted Photonic Demodulator) pixel structure, together with the back-illuminated CMOS sensor architecture, enables a much more precise and sensitive scanning of reflected light. This enables the Basler blaze 3D camera, independent of light and contrast and with a resolution of 640 pixels × 480 pixels, to measure optical values almost to the millimeter over a large measuring range of up to ten meters.

CoaXPress 2.0 Camera

Mikrotron (Poway, CA) launched its first camera to feature the ultra-fast CoaXPress 2.0 (CXP 2.0) interface: the EoSens® 1.1CXP2. Featuring four CXP-12 connections, the EoSens 1.1CXP2 delivers a maximum data transfer rate of 50 Gbit/s (4 × 12.5 Gbit/s), or 5 GByte/s. 20x Optical Zoom Cameras

Time of Flight Camera

LUCID Vision Labs, Inc. (Richmond, BC, Canada) announced that its Helios™ Time of Flight (ToF) camera is now in series production. Helios is a compact, high precision, industrial 3D camera that integrates Sony's new DepthSense™ IMX556PLR back-illuminated ToF image sensor. The camera delivers 640 × 480 depth resolution at a 6m working distance using four 850nm VCSEL laser diodes. On-camera processing provides range, intensity and confidence data which reduces the need for expensive host system components. A robust design with an M12 Ethernet connector and up to 100m cable length makes the camera ideal for a variety of factory and warehouse environments.

LUCID's own Arena SDK includes easy to use controls for the Helios ToF camera. The ArenaView GUI can show the intensity and depth of a scene in either a 2D view or a 3D point cloud view, which can be manipulated and oriented in real-time. Additionally, settings can be adjusted and seen in real-time, including false color overlay and depth range. All LUCID cameras conform to the GigE Vision 2.0 and GenICam3 standards and are supported by LUCID's own Arena software development kit.
