Photopolymer Films

The National Institute for Astrophysics in Italy (INAF) is working on holographic optical elements based on volume holograms, which effectively decompose the light of stars into their colors in order to study it spectroscopically. Bayfol® HX photopolymer films, manufactured by Covestro (Leverkusen, Germany), are used for the reproducible production of highly efficient volume holograms in high-performance telescopes for different spectrometers.

Bayfol® HX films consist of a transparent carrier film on which a light-sensitive layer and an additional protective outer film are placed. In Bayfol® HX, volume holograms can be imprinted in the films in a user-friendly, purely optical manner and reproducibly, without any chemical pre-treatment or posttreatment. Periodic refractive index patterns are flexibly inscribed into the thin Bayfol® HX films using an appropriate laser exposure setup. The starlight is diffracted very efficiently at this periodic refractive index pattern, separating the starlight much more effectively into its spectral components than can be done with a prism.

Optical Fiber For Laser Applications

OFS (Avon, CT) announced the launch of its new TrueLase Yb16/250 active and passive large mode area optical fibers for high power cutting and welding markets. The single-mode performance of the gain and passive fibers are specifically designed to meet the demand for higher power plus improved efficiency. OFS TrueLase fibers have a proprietary low- index coating for added temperature performance. These double clad fibers are used 1040 to 1200 nm range.

UV LED Light Engine

Innovations in Optics, Inc. (Woburn, MA) offers the LumiBright™ UV-LED Light Engine Model 2990B-100 designed for UV flood curing systems to cure large parts or many small parts simultaneously. The light engine can be used alone or placed in tiled arrays to provide large area coverage. The 2990B-100 is intended for use within OEM equipment or integrated into automated assembly systems for photocuring light-curable adhesives, coatings, encapsulants, gaskets, maskants and potting compounds.

Measurement Systems

Instrument Systems (Munich, Germany) is announcing new fast, high-resolution spectrometers and systems for the measurement of VCSELs and AR/VR displays for time-of-flight and AR/VR applications. If laser diodes and VCSEL arrays are to be used for time-of-flight applications, they must be measured in terms of performance and spectral intensity, and their emissions and generated pulses characterized. For this purpose, Instrument Systems offers absolutely calibrated spectroradiometers for different wavelength ranges together with a wide range of accessories.

Widely used in the production environment is a system that couples the emitter into an integrating sphere and measures it instantaneously with the aid of photo diodes and a spectrometer of the CAS series. A fast photodiode and the emitter’s specially developed control electronics guarantee characterization of pulses in the single-digit nanosecond range and recording of the LIV curve. In addition, the single emitters of the VCSEL array can be analyzed with the aid of an absolutely calibrated camera from the LumiTop series, enabling conclusions regarding the spatial radiation properties in the near and far field.

Goniometer

PrismMaster® Flex from TRIOPTICS (Rochester, NY) is a versatile goniometer for optics manufacturing. The unique vertical configuration and modular product concept make it suitable for production-related quality testing of prisms and plano optical components. The new PrismMaster® Flex goniometer provides for optimal adaptation to customers’ measurement requirements by means of three expansion stages.

Optical Rotary Torque Sensors

Sensor Technology (Oxon, UK) recently launched the digital ORT 230/240 series of optical rotary torque sensors that provide precise, dynamic measurement of rotary and static torque of less than 100 Nm and for bandwidths of up to 50 kHz. TorqSense ORT 230 series sensors provide fixed voltage or current analogue outputs – one for torque and one for either speed or power. The TorqSense ORT 240 provides two user-selectable voltage or current analogue outputs – one for torque and the other for either speed, power or peak torque – plus digital outputs including RS232, CANbus and USB for interfacing with modern instrumentation and laptops.

The ORT 240 enables users to connect up to 10 transducers via USB, and transducer configuration software for making changes to transducer variables. Features of both devices include self-diagnostics to report if the transducer’s torque, speed ratings or calibration date have been exceeded, while inbuilt sensors monitor shaft temperature for better compensation and accuracy.

Fiber Laser Head

FOBA's (Selmsdorf, Germany) latest innovation is a new Vector Scan laser marking head called Titus™. Being part of the new 20 Watt or 30 Watt FOBA fiber laser marking systems Y.0200-xs / Y.0300-xs, the new head is just over 20 centimeters long and weighs approximately 630 grams. Easy mounting with a clamping bracket and an optional supply line up to ten meters long is possible. Its flexibility is also based on an optional straight or inclined by 90 degrees exit angle of the laser beam and the ability to adjust the marking field size to the application requirements.

All three available user interfaces from FOBA can be used to operate the system. 24-Lane Rugged Transceiver

Reflex Photonics (Kirkland, QC, Canada) announced that its LightCONEX™ LC 150G (12TRX) blind mate optical interconnect will power a new generation of 3U form factor VPX cards developed by Interface Concept. The LightCONEX LC 150G is a full-duplex active blind-mate optical interconnect with 24-lane transceivers. It provides bandwidth in excess of 150 Gbps. Based on the OpenVPX™ standards, the LightCONEX frees up critical board space by integrating the optical transceiver into the board edge connector.

3D Scanner

Exact Metrology (Cincinnati, OH) announces its Artec LEO 3D scanner, the first scanner to offer onboard automatic processing with an integrated touch panel viewer. The scanner has a 3D reconstruction rate of 80 frames per second, and features data acquisition up to 4 million points/second, with a working range of .35-1.2 m. Femtosecond Laser

LXR 100, the first femtosecond laser from Luxinar (Kingston Upon Hull, UK), has been added to the company’s product portfolio, meaning Luxinar now produces ultrashort pulse lasers in addition to sealed CO2 laser sources. The LXR 100 is capable of a large dynamic range of average powers, pulse energies and operating modes. The pulse width is between 900 ± 100fs, with a pulse repetition frequency between single shot and 40 MHz, and a maximum rated pulse energy of 100μJ. Burst mode and pulse on demand are available. The controller has been developed to ensure the necessary functionality is available whilst ensuring high precision can be achieved.

The extremely short pulse width of the laser virtually eliminates heat diffusion to the surroundings of the processed region, minimizing the formation of a heat-affected zone (HAZ), and enabling ultrahigh precision micro- and nanofabrication of various components. The high peak power also enables novel modes of processing within the bulk of the material rather than restricting interaction with the material surface. Programmable DC Loads

SIGLENT Technologies (Solon, OH) introduced the SDL1000X and SDL1000X-E series of programmable electronic DC Loads designed for battery, solar cell, and power supply testing. The SDL1020X/X-E models offer an input range of 150V/30A with 200W total power dissipation, while the SDL1030X/X-E’s have an input range of 150V/30A up-to 300W. The X type provide a measurement resolution of 0.1 mV/0.1 mA, whereas the economical X-E type offers 1 mV/1 mA.

All models come standard with a 3.5-inch TFT-LCD display and user-friendly interface. As part of this functionality, operators can use the Program function (maximum 50 groups) and List function (maximum 100 steps) to create complex discharge profiles, which can be useful in battery charging circuitry design. Objective Scanner

Prior Scientific (Cambridge, UK) has released the NanoScan OP400, a piezo-based objective scanner. Prior Scientific acquired Queensgate in 2018 and the NanoScan OP400 combines Prior’s expertise in delivering microscopy solutions with Queensgate’s nanopositioning technology. The OP400 is compatible with most microscopes and objective lenses, has a range of optimized settings for different objective sizes, weights, and performance needs - the user simply selects the best setting for their application.

Coupled with the Queensgate NPC-D-6110 digital controller the system is easy to use and quick to set up using standard 0-10V analog input and output. The digital control technology allows control of stage movement with variable acceleration/deceleration algorithms, which improves step settle time by reducing overshoot and prevents stage ringing.
