Polarization Controller/Scrambler

OZ Optics Limited (Ottawa, Canada) now offers a high-speed electrically operated polarization controller (EPC) that provides continuous polarization control in a compact, easy to operate package. The unit has four birefringence transducers, each controlled by an analog input signal, installed along a fiber to change the polarization in orthogonal directions. The response speed of each transducer surpasses 30 kHz. Insertion losses and return losses are near negligible, and the device can be operated from 1260 nm to over 1650 nm wavelengths.

Applications include polarization controllers for optical networks, Polarization Dependent Loss (PDL) control, Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) compensation modules, and polarization scramblers for polarization parameter characterization systems.

Automated X-ray Inspection System

Saki Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) introduced its 3D-CT automated X-ray inspection (AXI) system designed specifically for the inspection and measurement of insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) power modules. The 3Xi-M200 is 1,400 mm wide and weighs just 5,100 kg. The platform handles board sizes of 50 × 140 mm (W × L) to 360 × 330 mm (W × L). For larger 360 × 510 mm (W × L) boards, 2-step image capture is available.

The 3Xi-M200 is equipped with a newly developed detector that enables high-sensitivity imaging while expanding the field of view (FOV) and updated 3D-CT reconstruction processing software. Saki’s unique 200keV (kiloelectron volt) high-precision X-ray imaging and precision 3D reconstruction, using Saki’s planar computed tomography (PCT), provides clear images by penetrating through the heat sink’s multiple layers.

Wide Angle Diffuser

Focuslight Technologies (Xi’an, China) announced the LIMO Wide Angle Diffuser. Designed for automotive LiDAR and 3D sensing applications, the LIMO Wide Angle Diffuser is a glass refractive optical element (ROE) with the ability to disperse laser light in one direction up to a full illumination angle, ranging from a few mrad up to 150 degrees. When combined with a second functional surface, the light can also be shaped at any desired angle in the other direction. This makes it possible to obtain a rectangular field with a steep edge slope and a user-defined field of view (FOV), for example 60° × 45° or 120° × 25°. The Wide Angle Diffuser is designed to work with a variety of light sources, including collimated light, diverging light, or a light source array, such as VCSELs.

Unlike diffractive optical elements (DOE), which are limited to small angles, moderate ambient conditions, and have an intensity distribution that drops flat at the edges, the LIMO Wide Angle Diffuser is an eye-safe ROE with no zero-order and no “hot spot.” The glass material features small refractive index variation and small thermal expansion with temperature, delivering stable performance over a wide temperature range (-40~150 ). High uniformity and high window efficiency within the FOV deliver a homogenous intensity profile in angular space with high-quality edges.
