Plasma Deposition Process

Plasma physical vapor deposition (PVD) platform

Alluxa, Inc. (Santa Rosa, CA) recently introduced its next-generation SIRRUS™ plasma physical vapor deposition (PVD) platform offering full spectral coverage from ultraviolet (200 μm) to infrared (14 μm). The proprietary process enables optical filters with the steepest edges, highest transmission, and deepest blocking available while maintaining high-performance, precision wavelength control, and extremely uniform coatings. The new extended spectral performance is available on a variety of Alluxa's optical filters, including ultra-narrow bandpass filters, bandpass filters, dichroic, notch, and multiband filters. The UV to mid-IR coatings can also be deposited on various substrate shapes and sizes and even on large format parts. Other SIRRUS PVD features include high-volume output, quick turn manufacturing of new designs, and very high layer counts that deliver the highest possible spectral performance.

1000:1 Extinction Ratio Beamsplitter

Polarizing beamsplitter cube

Precision Glass & Optics (PG&O) (Santa Ana, CA) announced a new polarizing beamsplitter cube that splits up the S & P polarization of light with extinction ratios from Tp/Ts 1000:1 and Rs/Rp 1000:1. PG&O's specialty beamsplitters are designed to work with lasers and are well-suited for other optical applications. The entrance and exit faces of the cube beamsplitters are carefully coated with anti-reflection (AR) coatings to greatly improve the performance of the cube. With advanced optical coatings from PG&O that operate from 200 nm – 2500 nm, these innovative beamsplitters can be customized to meet the critical specifications of customers. The company's previously announced 200:1 and the new 1000:1 extinction cube polarizing beamsplitters are both used in applications where two polarization components need to be analyzed, or used simultaneously.

3D Laser Scanner

3D laser scanner

Hexagon's (North Kingstown, RI) Manufacturing Intelligence division announced its new ultra high-speed Absolute Scanner AS1. The modular blue laser line scanner operates with both laser trackers and portable measuring arms. The AS1 integrates Hexagon's unique SHINE (Systematic High-Intelligence Noise Elimination) technology so users can scan most any surface type at maximum speed and accuracy while SHINE's advanced algorithms do the hard work in the background. The new AS1 offers a data collection speed of 1.2 million points per second and delivers scanning accuracy within 50 microns in a 60 meter volume, handheld or automated, with an Absolute Tracker AT960 laser tracker. For small to medium size parts or products, the scanner unit can be mounted to any current-generation Absolute Arm 7-axis system for scanning and hidden area inspection with scanning accuracy of 16 microns within a measurement volume from 2 - 4.5 meters.
