Sierra-Olympic Technologies (Hood River, OR) introduced the Tenum™640, a thermal imager with a 640 x 512 array and 10-micron pixel pitch. The new camera, from the Leonardo DRS line of uncooled thermal cores combines ultra-small pixel structure with its ultra-sensitive, vanadium oxide (VOx) microbolometer sensor. It provides longwave infrared (LWIR) imaging quality and detection up to 60 frames per second (fps). The high-resolution LWIR camera core features image contrast enhancement (ICE™), 24-bit RGB and YUV (4,2,2), plus exceptional sensitivity (less than 50 mK NETD).
Silicon Avalanche Photodiodes
With the Series 9, First Sensor (Berlin, Germany) offers a wide range of silicon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) with very high sensitivity in the near infrared (NIR) wavelength range, especially at 905 nm. With their internal gain mechanism, large dynamic range and fast rise time the APDs are ideal for LIDAR systems for optical distance measurement and object recognition according to the time of flight method. Application examples include driver assistance systems, drones, safety laser scanners, 3D-mapping and robotics.
Industrial Laser Diode Drivers
The low noise LD15CHA – the newest addition to the Wavelength (Bozeman, MT)laser diode driver line – offers exceptional modulation bandwidth, and ample power for materials processing, industrial laser cutting, and laser diode bars / stacks. The small laser diode driver delivers 15 A output current up to 28 V. It meets laser compliance requirements from 3 V with a single 5 V supply, and up to 28 V with an additional 30 V power supply. Additional models are available with 2.5 A, 5 A, and 10 A output. This product family supports A & B type laser diodes. Three photodiode current ranges are available.
Scanning Electron Microscope
Manufacturers using additive manufacturing (AM) processes can now use the high-resolution imaging and elemental analysis capabilities of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to characterize powders. The new Thermo Scientific Explorer 4 Additive from Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA) is the first commercially-released SEM specifically designed to measure particle size, shape and composition in AM metal powders, and to inspect finished parts to assure quality. The Explorer 4 Additive automatically and simultaneously analyzes three of the most critical characteristics of powders used in powder-bed and powder-fed AM processes: particle size distribution, morphology and impurities detection.
GigE PoE Cameras
LUCID Vision Labs, Inc. (Vancouver, Canada) announced the series production of its cost-efficient 0.4 MP and 1.6 MP Phoenix models. The Phoenix is a micro compact camera line measuring only 24 x 24 mm. These lower resolution Phoenix models feature the 0.4 MP Sony Pregius IMX287 and the 1.6 MP IMX273 global shutter CMOS sensors, running at 291 fps and 77 fps, respectively. Its board layout can be tri-folded into a stacked camera where it resembles a traditional cased camera but can also be unfolded into 90 or 180-degree orientations for the ultimate custom fit. The Phoenix offers NF-mount lenses and Hirose’s ix Industrial™ Ethernet connector.
Compact Piezo Laser Modules
Quantum Composers (Bozeman, MT) announced the release of its new compact, high-precision line of piezo laser modules for ablation applications. The new line contains a series of compact commercial and OEM modules which include an attenuator, X-Y aperture, rotating waveplate and filter wheel. These compact modules were designed for lasers in the 1064nm range with tact times under one-second and a damage threshold of 5 J/cm2. Each module has a 20mm beam height. The modules are easily controlled via USB or RS232 and custom solutions are also available for more specific applications.
Exact Metrology (Cincinnati, OH) has announced the availability of its new Artec Ray laser scanner. Ideal for scanning large objects like wind turbines, ship propellers, airplanes, and buildings, the Artec Ray offers ultra-high precision and speed. With the ability to scan up to 110 meters away, this scanner offers submillimeter distance accuracy and best in class angular accuracy. Users need only place it on a tripod in front of the object they wish to scan and press the button. Once scanned, the scan is processed directly into the powerful Artec Studio, then seamlessly exported to Geomagic Design X. To obtain maximum benefits, Artec Ray can be paired with Eva or Spider handheld Artec scanners to scan hard-to-reach areas.
Radiation–Hardened Optical Transceivers
Reflex Photonics (Montreal, Canada) has launched its space grade radiation-hardened LightSPACE line of products, engineered to withstand radiation doses >100 krad as per the European Cooperation for Space Standardization ECSS-Q-ST-60-15C. In addition to the LightABLE rugged transceivers standard qualifications (vibration, mechanical and thermal shock, thermal cycling, and cold storage according to MIL-STD-883 and MIL-STD-810), the LightSPACE were successfully qualified with the following protocols: proton testing - total Non-Ionizing Dose (TNID); heavy ion testing - Single Event Effect & Latch-up (SEE and SEL); gamma ray using Cobalt-60 - Total Ionizing Dose (TID) (MIL-STD-883G, method 1019.7).
