Inductive Proximity Sensors
AutomationDirect, Cumming, GA, has added new stainless-steel specialty inductive proximity sensors from Contrinex. They are designed for extreme environments and are offered in 3 mm to 50 mm diameters with protection ratings up to IP69K. Select models are rated for high-temperature applications up to 230 °C (446 °F) and high-pressure applications up to 500 bar (7251 psi). Other models feature metal chip immunity, which eliminates the risk of false switching due to metal debris. DNV-GL certified versions for maritime use are available, as well as models with IO-Link v1.1 capability.

Hermetically Sealed Position Sensors
The HI Series of hermetically sealed 4-20 mA LVDTs from NewTek Sensor Solutions, Pennsauken, NJ, ensure highly reliable and consistent data output for factory automation, materials testing, and packaging equipment applications. Requiring less power than similar DC-operated LVDTs and signal conditioners, these sensors satisfy low power budgets. Sustaining accuracy with no errors over long distance transmissions, the 4-20 mA current does not degrade over long connections and is less sensitive to background electrical noise.

Wirepas Mesh Tag
Fujitsu Components America, Sunnyvale, CA, introduced a mesh unit (tag) with built-in Wirepas Mesh 2.4 GHz network connectivity for IoT applications, including asset tracking in hospitals, offices, warehouses, factories, and other environments. When used with Fujitsu’s IoT connectivity anchors, sensor nodes, or USB dongle products, the FWM8BLZ14T mesh tag enables the creation of large-scale, high-density networks under autonomous network rerouting, despite device failure or changes in the network environment. The IP67-rated tag is water resistant, so stains, particles, and liquids (such as chemicals, medications, and blood) may be washed off without risk of damage.

MEMS Motion Sensors
Bosch Sensortec, Stuttgart, Germany, is launching the BMI323, an affordable inertial measurement unit (IMU) with excellent performance and integrated features enabling a shorter development time. It is a general-purpose, low-power IMU that combines precise acceleration and angular rate (gyroscopic) measurement with intelligent integrated features that are triggered by motion. It also includes Bosch Sensortec’s plug-and-play step counter software, so customers don’t need to spend time developing their own algorithms.

Laser Sensor
The optoNCDT 1420LL laser sensor from Micro-Epsilon, Ortenburg, Germany, has a special lens with oval light spot (short laser line). With advanced surface compensation for high-speed measurements on changing surfaces, it is designed for shiny metal, rough, and structured surfaces. They are used for precise distance measurements on structured surfaces — when the distance to the surface and not the structure itself needs to be measured.

Power Supplies with EtherCAT Interface
Beckhoff, Savage, MN, has introduced the new PS2000 device series featuring a built-in EtherCAT interface. They can remotely collect additional measurement and device diagnostics for comprehensive system monitoring. These power supplies combine compact design and high performance with predictive maintenance functionality. The EtherCAT interface allows the control system to directly process extensive measurement data and internal device diagnostics information and establish remote access to power supplies. It also provides advanced monitoring features for the DC output (for system monitoring) or the AC input (for source monitoring).
